  1. We have a homeschool consignment bookstore here. I take my stuff there.
  2. I am a CPM. I am educated in and practice midwifery. I do not practice medicine. Two very, VERY different fields of practice. Depends on the state. Some states require that they practice under an MD in some fashion. A lot of it has to do with the medical community not having much of a clue as to what midwifery is, "rogue" midwives who do overstep their scope of practice, a medical community that for some reason thinks we are taking away their business, a medical community that thinks midwifery is dangerous and that we are not properly and fully trained, etc. So when they do come after midwives, they will say she was "practicing medicine without a license". It's a really messed up system and I agree that it is odd. Some states have a midwifery license available. So the midwife may choose to be licensed in midwifery, not medicine. If she wants to be licensed in medicine she can go to medical school and become a medical provider. And now back to the Duggar discussion. :)
  3. I only like to watch because they showed Jill and Jana attending home births. :) Love that the OOH birth is shown as an option and normal. Other than that, the more I learn about the Duggars and the parenting methods they follow (Gothard, ATI, very patriarchal), the less I care to watch. I wouldn't classify it as medical, but rather birth work. Doulas and midwives don't practice medicine. ;) And yes, Jill is doing an apprenticeship.
  4. Oh darn! I completely forgot to set the DVR! Will have to dig it up online and check it out. We have Game of Thrones to get us through a bit but Turn looked like it might be an interesting one to watch too. :)
  5. Grew up in KS and now live in OK. Tornado Alley born and bred. ;) When there is a warning we don't freak out. We just continue about our business until things look like we need to do otherwise. We just keep the tv on (as long as the satellite will keep going thru any rain), watch the radar on our phones, and/or listen to the talk radio channel that always gives play-by-play. After living there a while you'll get used to where to keep an eye out for anything that might possibly come exactly your way. For example, we are in the Tulsa area. Anything that spins up west of Oklahoma City will very most likely be some rain by the time it comes up the turnpike to Tulsa. If anything spins up between OKC and Tulsa and is coming our way, that's something to keep an eye on. We sit in our hallway (no interior rooms or basement) and wait it out. If it looked like something really, really awful was coming directly at us and we had time, we'd leave the house ASAP and drive northwest or go to my inlaws (who live a bit NW of us and have three interior rooms). How old is your son? Perhaps you can teach him how to look at the radar so he can see #1 it's not coming your way and #2 it's just showing a thunderstorm with no chance of a tornado. We did that with our son last season (he's 8 now) and it helped him quite a bit. And if it ever happens that there is a very good possibility of one coming directly towards you, remind him of the drills and the steps you will take to stay safe. It is normal to get a little on edge and feel the adrenaline when there is a true threat coming your way but if *you* can stay calm and remind him of what needs to be done for safety, the better he'll be at handling his fears.
  6. Maybe they are getting really, really hungry. :p
  7. Do some reading on carb loading before the test.
  8. It looked to me like they were making more signs/maps.
  9. Completely silly but when they flashed back to Patrick, I said, "Hey Ferb..I know what I'm going to do today…build something awesome with Legos!!"
  10. I can't find good, supportive bras in my size at box stores. I have to get them at Soma. Before we had a Soma here I bought from Lane Bryant but I stopped going there because the employees were incredibly rude.
  11. Lincoln said that he was asked, "Beef or chicken?" He replied, "Chicken." And then he was asked, "Cooked or raw?" He thought if they were going to do it then they should *really* do it so he said, "raw". So basically when they did that scene he had a mouth full of raw chicken and fake blood.
  12. It's really pretty normal. Annoying…but normal. And it's NEVER false labor. Those contractions are beneficial for both your uterine muscles and for the baby. Even when they aren't coordinated enough to be labor, they are doing something. Sometimes prodromal labor happens because baby isn't positioned well. If you don't already you might go see a chiropractor to help make sure everything in your pelvis is aligned so baby can get where he/she needs to be. Also, when you have those contractions do some hands/knees positioning. That can help encourage baby to rotate around with the help of the contractions. And just because your last baby came quickly it doesn't mean this one will.
  13. Celebrating my second daughter's 14th birthday. :) We don't do April Fools jokes around here.
  14. and EW!!!! I'm glad no one was ON a plate from Mary. LOL! I thought it was a great episode (finally). I wasn't expecting anything amazing to be revealed after all the build-up. It was a season finale so of course they are going to build up and then leave us hanging. Nice little foreshadowing of Terminus with the rabbit snare. I'd like to think that Tyrese and Carol can come in and save the day. But you can only fight so much with a baby on your back. Maybe they'll be added to the train car and the bad boys will come up with a plan. I'm also nervous for Glenn and/or Maggie. The Talking Dead was interesting when they were talking about filming the neck bite scene. I can share if anyone wants to know but I don't want to be redundant and type it all out if most of you saw it. Thankfully I have other shows to occupy my time until October. :)
  15. Just about two weeks at ChickFilA when I was in high school. They kept saying they would train me on the register and never did. My job was to prepare the raw chicken in the marinade and to clean. It was horrible. I went home *every night* smelling like raw chicken. :ack2:
  16. Now I'm really scared. And yes, I wondered if she was pregnant as well. But her shirt was somewhat "flow-y" and she seems older so wouldn't be uncommon for her to have a bit of a pooch. *shrug*
  17. Absolutely, yes. I recommend that all of my clients take their newborn in for an adjustment. And if they are dealing with spit up issues, chiro is the very first thing I suggest.
  18. Just looking online about any cannibals mentioned in the comics. And there are, The Hunters. So there is some speculation that Terminus is where The Hunters live. And others saying that maybe the group Daryl is with has something to do with The Hunters (which I don't buy since they killed that guy on Sunday and just left him there).
  19. Oohh….I like that theory! I'm really nervous for Sunday. lol
  20. My husband said he thinks they are cannibals. ;) I only called him a scientist because I couldn't remember his name. lol Yes, I agree that Terminus felt very staged. Where are all the people?
  21. Discuss. :) Yay for Glen and Maggie. Daryl seems to be fitting in with his new group. I wonder a bit if he sees the older guy as a father-figure and that's part of what's keeping him with that group. He doesn't act like he *really* wants to be there (obviously he wants to find Beth) but something about that guy draws him in. Terminus scares me now. lol My very first thought was, "Why was it SO easy to get in?" If it's a safe haven for people, why aren't they standing guard to keep it safe? I think the scientist will die next week. ;)
  22. Double Chocolatey Chip Frapp. Drink three for me, please? :p
  23. She talked a little about the symbolism but I don't remember now what she said and I deleted the episode. :glare:
  24. Sure. - She talked about being presented with and reading the script. She said the producer/writer/I can't remember now who it was told her that Carol was going to be asked to do something very hard but that they wanted her to come out of it with grace. - They talked some about how Carol has changed. How she went from being afraid of her abusive husband to how she is today. That she has become someone who will do what needs to be done. She's able to see the issue, take care of it, and move on. - She asked if everyone noticed the puzzle on the table. Said it had been there as a prop, the kids played with it as they were working on filming, etc. When they were done filming the producer (I think it was..I never remember because they talk about producers, writers, etc. all the time on there) brought the puzzle box over to show them what the finished puzzle was supposed to be. It was a picture of Sophia. - A caller asked why Carol didn't kill the deer at the end. It was pretty much what we discussed here. McBride said something like, "I think she was just too tired…" and went on about how it was out of respect for Meka. - The actress from Community pointed out that she thinks the smoke they saw was from the house Daryl/Beth set on fire. ;)
