  1. A mentally unbalanced person who would make threatening phone calls in the middle of the night. Perfectly nice people no one would ever want to hurt *do* get hurt, you know.
  2. That would actually not be that expensive to create. (But what's with the bucket? lol!)
  3. Why would you think that? Scary is not the point. What he did was against the law.
  4. Absolutely. You think you know who this is?!?
  5. There is definitely a huge range in quality there. Like anywhere, I guess. I had some IKEA chairs not last very long at all, but the wall cabinets I bought for storage in various areas (sewing, school supplies etc) still look like new. I wish I had bought the Expedit instead.
  6. Checking and checking again to see if I can edit. I might even be able to edit twice (so far, so good!).
  7. I am currently planning two co-op classes, and getting some books listed on amazon that I do not wish to keep. Books that don't sell in 10 days are going to the Book Samaritan. Some (not listed on amazon) are going sooner. I don't have much other clutter to deal with. (Not now anyway. I've been picking at this room since April.) Phase two includes painting and building 2-4 more bookcases (simple quick project).
  8. Happening here too. Making it more trouble than it's worth today. I'm taking it as a sign to go cook or clean something. Still no emoticons on Chrome for me either.
  9. I never said anything of the sort. Obviously, it's safer to learn to swim. Those who do not swim will avoid water sports. I've know adults who avoided getting in the water their whole lives. Just not their thing. I didn't press for details. Phobias maybe? It happens. Probably more than most people know. It is much more easily avoiding than riding in a car. I think the percentage of US citizens who can not swim is much higher than the percentage of those who will never ride in a car (and that's pretty much what I did say.). And there are reasons why someone's kid a swimmer (or swim at an age you feel is appropriate) that have nothing to do with his parents being delusional and thinking his non-swimming is just fine and dandy. (Blast these captchas!!)
  10. If there are any teens that don't swim in HI, I bet they are not hanging out at the beach. There are quite a few lakes in Michigan. They are everywhere. Still, somehow, both my parents never learned to swim. A false sense of security is every bit as much of a problem as a kid who does not swim. After all, no one expects a non-swimmer to be safe in the water. I personally only know of one drowning around here that was because the person didn't know how to swim. And this child was 3.
  11. It's pretty hard to avoid riding in cars. I would say it's much harder to avoid riding in cars than to stay out of a pool or lake. So... it's not quite the same thing at all.
  12. It's all greyed out for me too (Chrome). And now I'm double posting. :-/
  13. Hmmmm... I wilt in the heat, but I'm not too fond of our winters either. It's more because of the darkness than the cold though. In the summer, we tend to forget about the short dreary days when it gets dark out before dinner because we would like it to be cooler out. I do hate being hot and sticky, and I never thought I'd be the one to say this, but I think I might actually take the heat over those short dark depressing winter days. Have we all forgotten the February blahs just because a heat wave hit? It was BAD for me this year.
  14. Stop turning nouns into verbs. I can take just about anything else.
  15. No matter where he is in the house, if I sit down on the sofa, our German Shepherd will come sit by me. He will either put his butt up against me like he wants to be on my lap, or sit facing me and put one paw on my leg. And any game of fetch or frisbee can become a game of keep away depending on his mood.
  16. This is something that never gets old. He'll mention a favorite TV show or movie etc. and get a blank look + an "I must not have been born yet." comment from me. :-P
  17. Pretty sure those are books to be read to the child. That's why "Language Arts" and "Literature" get a separate heading. Those Andrew Lang fairy books are not light reading either. We own all 12. They are excellent, and if your children love fairy tales, they pretty much have them all. Here is the Blue one (listed at the nursery school level): http://www.gutenberg.org/files/503/503-h/503-h.htm#2H_4_0001
  18. I think it's the assumption that this oversexualization is hardwired that's odd. There should be no vigorous reprogramming needed. Just normal exposure to moms nursing their babies without it being a big deal. I think the OP is at the very least overthinking it.
  19. We have several and ds loves them. The most recent was bought at Christmas and took him several months (mostly ignoring it) to complete. He's persistent! (I do not know why he is making that face. :tongue_smilie: ) It was the lava launch coaster. ( http://www.knex.com/...ct.php?pc=50050 ) He has been getting and building these for years. This one would not likely be good for a beginner:
  20. Michigan is easy. No notice of intent No record keeping No attendance No testing. They kindly suggest you teach your kids. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/home_schools_122555_7.pdf
  21. Eight O'Clock. I like the Columbian and French Roast.
  22. You might just be surprised at how much you love it. Check out Starting Strength from the library and give it a good looking over before you get too serious. Also The New Rules of Lifting for Women has good information (The workout looks unnecessarily complicated to me.). And don't let personal trainers try to convince you that women should only lift weights that weigh less than their purse. How did that idea ever gain acceptance?! It's a rare woman who gets bulky, and it would certainly take enough time that you'd notice it first. And really, who cares? I, for one, am already bulky! At least you won't be bulky, weak and in pain. I just started early May, and can deadlift 110 lbs (one time! lol!). I've had a shoulder injury, so I'm taking it slow. (Really slow with overhead presses.) Oh, and check out her vids. If that's not soft and feminine enough for the masses, too bad. I bet she eats too. :thumbup1:
