  1. I slept with my Chihuahua(s) from about 8yo until 56yo when my last one died. They would snuggle under the covers against my body. I really miss that. I only remember ever having one stuffed animal. It was a small bear whose arms and legs could rotate. But when I got home from school one day, it was gone. My mother had gotten rid of it. All my kids had as many stuffed animals as they wanted, and kept them as long as they wanted, too.
  2. Last month when I went to the dentist, the hygienist recommended this one and another one. I don't do flouride. And I'll probably keep on using baking soda instead of toothpaste. But ds got this (Amazon) and says he likes it, fwiw. Boka Charcoal Toothpaste - Nano Hydroxyapatite, Fluoride Free, Remineralizing, Sensitive Teeth, Whitening - Dentist Recommended for Adult, Kids - Yuzu Mint Flavor, 4oz 1Pk - US Manufactured
  3. I hear that one that sounds a lot like Matthew Mcconaughey sometimes. Our former landlord had a gorgeous accent like that, only much stronger. He's in his 70's. I could also hear it in George W. Bush sometimes. I guess since I wasn't raised in TX maybe it's more obvious to me? Dd and I used to laugh when we first moved here. We both noticed that we could be talking to someone and thinking they don't have much of an accent until they hit certain words which caused us to do a double take and realize, 'Oh yeah. We ARE in TX.' lol
  4. I love a NJ accent. And a Cajun accent. And a TX accent. I was surprised at how easy it was to pick up that heavy Boston accent last time we lived in that area. At first, I couldn't even do it when I tried to do it. But after a couple of years, seemed like every time I opened my mouth, there it was! Effortless! lol I thought maybe because it was slightly similar to a Southern accent. It disappeared when we moved though. And now I can't do it at all. But I love to hear it. Although some of the women up there told me that when they were growing up the "nuns" refused to let them use that accent. One of my dd worked at a job where there was a man who was trained to recognize accents. He told her that when she got stressed he could hear a south Louisiana accent in her speech. I had picked it up from my relatives and I guess she picked it up from me. Accents are so much fun. 🙂
  5. When we lived in the woods with the (black) bears, I once asked my youngish kids what they thought was the most dangerous thing in the woods. They guessed a few things and then I told them it was the "people". Not the bears. They looked a little surprised, but kinda understood it. The reason I told them that was that black bears are generally skittish unless it's mating season, they have cubs with them, or you are between them and their food source. But the hunters were usually already breaking the law by trespassing on our land - so one strike against them right there. And, then, some of them would shoot at a deer no matter WHO was out there - on their own property - nearby. And so on. Then, there was the fact that we knew who some of them were and I really didn't want ANY of my kids out there alone in the woods with them - sons OR daughters. But I'm not sure why anyone would be "leaving" their dd out in the woods in the first place?? I think the question was worded oddly. Also, I have 3 grown dd's and they've all worked in law enforcement of some kind. So they've seen some of the worst out there. And they still go hiking on trails alone, etc. So far, they've been fine. But it does worry me a little bit sometimes. As for my sons, when they go running, the worst thing they run into in the woods OR in town here are the aggressive dogs not on leashes. 😒
  6. The doc recommended that I have mine out when I was in grammar school eons ago. My parents decided against it. I think they made the right decision. But that was way back in the 60s. When 2 of my sons were preschoolers in the 80s and kept getting ear infections, the pediatrician recommended tubes. They each had a couple of pair of tubes, but the only thing that stopped the infections was when I kept them out of group things, and they stopped getting the colds which always preceded the infections. Fwiw, the tubes left some scaring in one of my son's ears. How old is your dd?
  7. That is fantastic, Sue!!! 🙂 And also for you, too, Garga! 🙂
  8. {{{Hugs, Sue}}} Maybe ask how to set up a My Chart (or similar thing) account as soon as possible, if you don't already have one. That way you can review test results and doctor's notes at home, too.
  9. Our old SQ just died a couple months ago. It wasn't the computerized machine. I really liked it, but it didn't last as long as I had thought it would. But I also think the water where we live now is very hard on everything - machines, pipes, etc. Our landlord from the rental house we had when we first moved here said the same thing. Not so great water. But there is also the fact that my dh refused to call anyone to service it when it began making a screeching noise during spinning ... so there's that. We bought a TR7. It's OK in that it works fine. I'm not particularly fond of the computerized aspect. And it's not as quiet as I had thought it would be. But dh called and they sent a service guy out who said "they all sound like that". We got a 4-year warranty with this one, I think. And with 4 of us here now, I'm hoping that anything that goes wrong with it, goes wrong within that time frame. We wash a lot of clothes with 2 of our grown kids living here now. Tons of towels and whites. I've begun to think that about the only way to buy things now - cars, appliances, HVAC systems, etc. - is to research it to death, buy the best one we can afford, and get a REALLY good warranty with it. Quite a change from the way I grew up, but that's where we are. 🙁
  10. One of my grown daughters went to almost all of my medical appts from the time I was diagnosed with cancer and all the way to the end of the chemo and radiation. I was SO glad she was there. She asked questions and took notes. I asked questions, too, but dd was able to process the info much faster and ask more thorough questions than I usually did - right then and there. This dd is very detail-oriented so it worked well for us. We used her notes for a couple of years after everything was over and the dust had settled. There was only one time that a specific doctor seemed annoyed by dd's questions. I just glanced at dd to signal her to let it go and she did. But I never told her to stop asking questions. Another way you might help them is to scour their My Chart accounts (or whatever the doctor uses). I find the doctor's notes, and tons more useful information there. I also use it to message the doctor with any questions. I know a nurse usually takes the questions to the doctor and messages me back, but that's fine. I get good solid answers to questions. On My Chart, I also find any of my test results and google the 'normal' ranges, the vocabulary, etc., to see what's happening there. Then, I message the doc with any questions. Finally, I check my appointments and change those via My Chart, too, when I need to. Can you tell I really like the My Chart feature? 😉
