We received the DVD today. Disappointed by the reviews; we will preview and see if its worth keeping; glad it was free anyway. No magazine.

Thank you!

Thank you for sharing this! My DD (who is 9) enjoys watching Alton Brown for his humor and scientific slant. This will be a great way for her to study the "science of cooking". Keeping this on file for next year!

If you had to choose just one place to order books....
lejardin replied to 3Rivers's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I ordered from all 3 this year since CBD had free shipping for $35+. I usually compare prices between Amazon and RR. All my orders came in pretty quick but A was quickest which is what I really like about them :) -
This is one of my favorite poems I learned as a young girl. My parents had a lovely paper placemat (when they did those things in restaurants lol) with various labeled drawings of leaves and in the center was Joyce Kilmer's poem. I love to be surrounded by trees and nature and recite this poem to myself...thanks for posting it and bringing back fond memories for me!

For those of you who are NOT morning people?
lejardin replied to simka2's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Boy, does this hit close to home! I'm a night owl for sure. I love, love, love to stay up late when DH and DD are sound asleep and do my thing! Trying to go to bed early can be difficult as others mentioned, I can lay awake for hours tossing and have to get up and stay up to 3a anyway! I too have felt guilty about this because it does seem the "norm" is to be a morning person and as a Christian I'm well aware of the Bible verses on "rising and shining" LOL I have done my duty as a morning person - attending school, working at jobs starting at 7am to 8am... When we started HSing we were up early and began our day "late" at 9am lol A friend of mine who HSs told me she felt guiltly starting at 9am because another mutual friend began her HS at 7am! I just thought that's fine for her but not me. Of course, as the school year progressed 9am was a fond memory! (hanged to 10a!) As others mentioned I do love being up early morning as nature comes alive, its peaceful and a great way to begin a day when I can really enjoy it. I can be productive at night or in the morning so over the years I've really become flexible LOL I just naturally prefer to do my "early morning" before the sun comes up LOL DH did tell me not to feel guilty about being up late, unless it's excessive (effects other things) :D He's one of those "up at 5a ready to go and to bed at 9p" people LOL I'm thankful he understands! I agree it's not good to carry guilt about being a night owl. I think we just need to do the best we can for our family and enjoy life (I need to listen to this too!) -
I just recently found that we have this available through our library too. I haven't had too much time to look it over but I am planning to use it for our next school year. I'd be interested in any helps too :) Sorry I can't offer help to you but I'll be checking back!

My DD wants to study chemistry and this is what I plan to use for her next year: http://www.ellenjmchenry.com/catalog/i1.html It satisfies her desire to study chem and my comfort zone in the kitchen. It is for 6 to 12 weeks.

Please tell me about Patty Paper Geometry
lejardin replied to swimmermom3's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
The uniqueness of PPG is what got me. DD will love learning geometry in "creative/artsy" way LOL (not to mention the classy name). Thing is this will be bookmarked for awhile...she's just going into 4th grade in the fall! -
Book title, please, on how to nature journal CM Style
lejardin replied to johnandtinagilbert's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Oh, Pocketful of Pinecones is what I was going to suggest too. It is a great book for just enjoyable reading and really ties in nature study. It made me want to do nature studies even more! It'll be a great summer read. -
Mine came yesterday! What a great resource!

Thanks Elinor! and Michelle! What you wrote seems to be more confirmation. I like being able to work ahead at times too. I have printed the diagnostic test to double check where to start DD. Oh, and I enjoyed reading all those little tidbits of information in the samples and DD just loves that kind of stuff LOL

Since I'm looking at other math programs for 4th gr next year, I appreciated reading everyone's comments on CLE as it is one of our top contenders. We are currently using Abeka 3 and although DD has done well it just seems too intense with long lessons. I have learned to cut it down and that has helped but CLE just looks "right" for us at this time. IF anyone else has more to say about it, I'll be reading!:001_smile:

SNOWPOCALYPSE photos...post here!
lejardin replied to Hedgehogs4's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm also in MI and it's been years since we've had snowstorms like this, but I do remember them. Seems we get more of the Canadian cold temps now. Amazing the difference across the country, when we usually have lots of snow. Ksva - what a beautiful area you live in. Thanks to everyone for sharing these pics. Even though the snow is burdensome and can cause major problems, nature's transformation is so beautiful. Hope all of you are safe and warm!
