  3. Ours is Perissos Academy. Perissos means superabundant or exceedingly abundant (from Ephesians 3:20). The original word in Greek is: περισσός Cindy

  5. They are generally 9x12 and you can find them on eBay (clear) or Amazon (clear with write on strip) Also, search on google for "9x12 ziplock bag" or "9x12 jewelry bag" for many different types. Cindy

  7. I used to have a membership to EL, but when the Homeschool Buyer's Co-op had discount to ABCteach, I couldn't resist. I use it almost daily for all subjects (for dd7), but my FAVORITE aspect of the site it the ABCTools custom worksheet generators. You can make word searches, crosswords, spelling sheets, math sheets and more. Also, there are thousands of worksheets & units already available (created by other members). Of course, most of what is available is for the lower grades (K-8) but I use it with my high schooler enough that it would be worth $20 a year just for him. You can still obtain an annual membership to ABCTeach for 50% off ($20 instead of $40) by joining the Homeschool Buyer's Co-op (free to join). Here is the direct link to ABCTeach membership discount I had a membership to Teachnology a few years ago and while it is packed with worksheets, it wasn't worth $50 a year to me then, although it looks like they have a lot more stuff now. 8. We are doing calendar binders although I am leaving out a couple items that fit better in the classroom (birthday & tooth charts). I added weather graphs & blank calendars I created myself, but the basic layout is the same. DD LOVES calendar time every morning. We use different patterns each month when writing the date (example this month's pattern is ABCABC so dd is using red/blue/green/red/blue/green to write the numbers). We also go over our address & phone number once a week and once a month I have her write her first/last name on a chart I made (so she can see how her handwriting improves by the end of the year). I have a small 7-pocket chart calendar with yesterday/today/tomorrow that has slots for the weather as well as the numerical date and day of the week. DD fills in a graph after checking the weather outside and fills in a number chart for the day of school we are on (I made a blank template with 180 boxes on it for her to fill in). I'll look in her binder and see what else we do and post it later (gotta get dinner on). Cindy
  9. If you have the buyer send the money as a "Personal" transaction, you will not have to pay fees. Well, unless you are selling on eBay, of course! If you want to make shipping labels online, you will have to use Multi Order shipping, but it is VERY easy to utilize. I was an eBay Powerseller before they became to difficult to deal with, so I can answer pretty much any question you may have about PayPal. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any more questions (and don't feel clueless--you are simply learning how to use a often confusing website). Cindy
  10. Worksheet Works has a generator with gray lines to trace.
  11. Wow. Our limit is 25 and you can only check them out for 3 weeks at a time with one renewal. 90% of the time renewing is not even an option since the book is either from another library or on hold for someone else. I would LOVE to use our library more, but it is definitely becoming increasingly difficult to do so for all the reasons mentioned above and more. The worst thing about our libraries is that they are seriously considering charging USER FEES (I'm not joking)! I heard at a recent council meeting that they want to charge patrons to use the library. I loved a couple of the quotes: Well, how DARE we read those books for free! Sheesh! Better to flood the overcrowded public schools then try and educate our own children with free library books :001_rolleyes: . and I won't even tell you what people said in response to this one LOL! Cindy
  12. We are Christians, so that factors into my opinion a little (ok a lot lol). I have used several WP science & History programs and honestly, it would be VERY easy to simply schedule the books for the particular theme you like without using their IG. While there were some helpful aspects of the IG (like the materials list and video suggestions), there was nothing that I could not find by doing a quick search on the internet. With that being said, if you LIKE having it all laid out for you, you would probably enjoy the guide as is. At first, I thought I wanted a schedule that basically told me "do X on Monday, Y on Tuesday," etc. But I spent so much time tweaking the guides that it really became my schedule using WP's suggested books, if that makes any sense. As for the Christian content, you can simply leave out the AIG books and substitute your own activities by searching online for the particular subject of the week (which is what I do for all the levels we have used/are using). Out of all the WP themes we have used, IMO the ones that utilize Mystery of History would be the hardest to tweak into a secular curriculum. I think I read on the WP forum that they have a secular package for families ordering through charter schools that omits the religious content (at least I think that is what it is for). You might check the forum or give them a call, they have always been very helpful when I have contacted them. Cindy

  14. I had the guide for the A/B/C books and only looked at it a couple times. I figured levels 1+ might need the guide, but since everyone unanimously says "no" I won't waste my $$! Thanks again. Cindy
  15. I learned the Books of the Bible song in kindergarten and I STILL use it to look books up to this day (learned it 30+ years ago). It doesn't reference books that have 1st or 2nd, but that is easy to learn once you know all the main names. I don't know where it came from but The Old Testament is sung to the tune "This Old Man" and the New Testament is sung to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". First verse of OT (notes written between words to give you an idea hope it's not confusing): This old man He played one G E G G E G Gen-e-sis Ex-o-dus He played knick knack on my thumb A G F E D E F Levit-i-cus and Num-bers too, With a knick knack paddy wack E F G C C C C Du-ter-ono- my, Josh-u-a, give the dog a bone, this old C D E F G G D Jud-ges a-and Ruth, Sa-muel, man came rolling home D F E D C Kings and Chron-i-cles. 16. Thank you for all the replies! :001_smile: I kind of figured they were optional, but thought I should ask for advice before placing my order. I appreciate the quick responses. Cindy
  17. I am wondering if anyone thinks the Teachers Guides are necessary for ETC books 1, 2, & 3? I hate to buy them if I can get by without them. But on the same token, if they would prove useful then I'll order them ASAP. FWIW, I have never taught Phonics before so that may factor into your suggestions. Thanks! Cindy
  18. Grade K Phonics Readers First Grade Reader Second Grade Reader Christian Liberty Press has a new online store and you can view everything by subject or grade. All the readers are either under the subject "reading" or the specific grade level (click one of the links that says Shop by Subject or Shop by Grade on the top left side of the page). HTH
  19. We are doing AW & I found all but a couple of the readers on Paperback Swap. I bought the spine books used on half.com, ebay and homeschoolclassifieds.com and will check the rest out at the library. I bought the guide used too, so all I needed were the WP exclusives. All in all, it was definitely more time consuming, but I saved more than half of what it would have cost me to buy from WP. I did the same thing with QAW and QMA and spent less for both programs than half of one new. If you want to start right now though, this would probably not be a good option as it took me a couple months to put it all together.
  20. We are using MCP Plaid Phonics A for 1st. It is colorful and covers the rules pretty thoroughly without excessive pages per lesson. You can see the table of contents b clicking the blue links under the picture. There are three editions and the latest is very colorful. However, the older versions are almost identical in content so you could easily use any of the editions if you find a cheap copy. I have not needed the teachers manual, but you might be able to find it on Amazon for a few bucks. You could skip a level if MCP A seems too easy. My dd is 7 and really enjoys it compared with ETC. You can see more sample pages at christianbook.com by typing the ISBN into their search box. Spectrum Phonics is not bad, either, but MCP is more thorough. Rainbow Resource has a nice assortment of phonics workbooks to browse through. Cindy
  21. Explorer Bible Study has a free 30 week download for PreK-Adult levels. You can get the link to one study per week. So, once you sign up, it will give you links to week 1 for every level. While you have a link open (pdf file that will open on the same page), you will see the address bar up top with number 1 in it. If you change the number to 2, 3, 4, etc (all the way to 30) and then hit enter, you can download them all at once instead of waiting 30 weeks. For example, if you click the Beginnings link, the address bar will say: http://www.explorerbiblestudy.org/lessons/1/beginnings_1.pdf So, to get the next lesson you would change both numbers to 2, like this: http://www.explorerbiblestudy.org/lessons/2/beginnings_2.pdf Keep doing that with every age level you need and inputting all numbers from 1-30 and you'll have a 30-week bible study! Cindy
  22. Sorry it took so ling to respond! The Bible portion is one of my favorite parts (even I am learning stuff). I wasn't sure if you were interested in the Bible portion, which is why I said you could leave it out. Honestly, QMA is fine how it is. But I am addicted to tweaking curriculum. I just can't seem to leave well enough alone! My problem is that I like to have plenty of additional resources scheduled in case something goes awry. We use our library for the readers and some of the History books so it helps to have a plan B (and C and occasionally D LOL). I like the 4-day schedule as well. It is nice to have a free day to do what we missed or add in some extras (like a dvd or activity/experiment). We do not really follow grade levels, per se, but my ds would be in 9th if he were still in PS. He is absolutely fascinated with the Medieval era, so that may influence his judgment a little. He is a very visual learner, so I try to find videos that tie in with the lesson topics every week (no small feat I can tell you). It really helps him to "see" the history and that's why we may not do all the readers with this program. The beauty of WP is that it is very easy to add in or take away components that may not fit your child's particular learning style (or your budget). The MOH2 book has suggestions in the back for additional books/videos that is very nicely done. In fact, you could check the MOH2 yahoo group. There are lots of ideas and suggestions for activities/books/extras in the files section and I think there may even be a copy of the book/video suggestions from the back of the book. QMA is our favorite WP program thus far and it is definitely enough for high school history.
  23. There are not any comprehension questions in WP that I have seen thus far (I have only used Animal & Their Worlds, Quest forthe Ancients & QMA). However, there are free study guides, tests, or questions online for some, if not all, of the scheduled readers. I have not done much in the way of comprehension with the readers this year, but I did check the following sites in the past and found pretty much every QMA book on at least one of these: HERE HERE HERE HERE HERE AND HERE With QMA, I am doing the History and the Human Body/Forensic Science that used to be scheduled in the IG, but was removed last year. There is Bible study interspersed here/there, but you can easily leave those 2 books out.
  24. I use my own LA/writing so you can simply use what you have on hand, unless you like a particular element of the sr hi L. I've only used the lower levels of WP LA so I can't comment on the jr/sr hi levels. I do incorporate the WP LA readers into our schedule, which is simple to do by lining up the time periods. You can find additional reader suggestions at Book in Time Cindy
