  1. We are doing this as we pack to move. I simply use boxes or large trash bags depending on the items. I try to pack like items together to make it easier for the workers to go through.
  2. How do you hide the games, surveys & stuff? That drives me crazy, too. I usually ignore more than 1/2 of what's on my newsfeed. :001_huh:
  3. Do you check your bp at home? Have you been getting very low readings? If you've just been getting normal readings, then chances are the bp meds & the current changes you've made are working together to keep you bp at a safe level. I wouldn't try to wean off or stop it completely without medical supervision. FWIW, I'm a former bp med taker who thankfully no longer needs meds! But I didn't go off of my meds without my dr's advice & close monitoring (both at home & at dr office). I still watch my bp cautiously as high bp runs in my family so I've been advised it could return.
  4. I'm using McRuffy with my ds (1st). We are just now in lesson 45 of the 1st grade book b/c we had to start with the K b/c my ds couldn't blend at all yet. He's made great improvements with McRuffy. The readers are great. The TM is easy to use. The workbooks are spiral bound which make it easier for the child to lay flat & use. We aren't going to continue with McRuffy for 2nd grade, though. I will be splitting the LA subjects up to better suit my ds's needs (however, I still may get the readers for him as he loves them!). McRuffy includes phonics/reading, spelling, grammar, & handwriting. It really is a great program. There is not too much work to be done each day which is great for a wiggly boy. ETA: we've also started the bedtime reading routine. He always liked to be read to at bedtime, but we've started having him pick books that he could read himself with his Daddy's help. They do as the pp mentioned (Daddy read a page, ds read a page). This has helped as well.
  5. When we painted our upstairs bonus room, we chose to paint the walls & ceiling the same color. It was a mistake. It makes the room feel small and closed in. I'm not against painting the ceiling a color (the rest of our house's ceiling is not painted white, but a few shades lighter than the wall color). But the same color makes the room feel very small, IMO.
  6. Although I haven't used it, Answers in Genesis looks like a wonderful & thorough pre-school curriculum. I'm thinking about using it with my baby (when the time comes, that is ;)). Answers for Preschoolers
  7. My ds6 (will be 7 in a few weeks) sounds like this. He detests school. He is just now making great progress with reading, but he still hates to read. He likes math, but hates doing math "schoolwork". He is a very active boy & if he were in ps, I am sure they would be quick to label him. Ds is very smart & very inquizitive; however, if he's not interested in doing it, he won't do it. Period. As a result, I only require my ds to do math & phonics/reading each day. Any science or history he gets from reading books or watching a show like "Life". BTW, he sat perfectly still & quiet through all of the "Life" shows. I was amazed! I'm actively trying to find readers on his level about science as a result. I also ordered him some Nate the Great books that he requested. (His name is Nathan, we call him Nate...I guess he imagines the books are about him).
  8. Could you be referring to Christian Light Education (CLE)? It is set up in "light units" similar to the paces from ACE. I don't find it cartoony or childish. We use & love the math.
  9. Independent. I can't find time in my schedule to do a co-op.
  10. I had high bp will all 4 of my pgs. But after the first one, I was offically diagnosed with hypertenion. With the 1st one, my bp started to get high around 18 weeks I believe. It steadily went up & we were unable to control it with meds. I was placed on full bed rest but ended up developing pre-eclampsia & ultimately ended up delivering via emergency c/section 2 months early. The other 3 pgs, I was medicated the entire pg & while my bp wasn't wonderful, it never got as high as it did with my first one (we're talking readings of 180/100 for my 1st pg!). I would definitely keep an eye on it. Make sure you stay hydrated & watch for an signs of high blood pressure...headaches that won't go away with tylenol, blurry vision. Also report ANY swelling to your doctor immeidately.
  11. Everything GE we've had has been junk. Literally. My MIL has had the same experience. DH and I vowed to NEVER EVER purchase another GE appliance. EVER. When we built our current home, we spent a lot of time researching all appliances. We settled with Kenmore Elite. Apparently, the Kenmore appliances are made by Whirlpool (that's what the Sears guy told us 4 years ago, anyway). We've had no trouble out of any of our Kenmore appliances. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to buy Whirlpool either. Good luck.
  12. What strikes me as odd is that the school doesn't have a cafeteria at all. So it's all up to the parents to pack "yes" foods. This is going to far, IMO. Yes, healthy eating should be promoted. But this is not the way to go.
