  1. Yes. Thank you for clarifying my question for me :) Okay, one can no longer hide your friend list from other friends - Could you hide the friend list from specific 'friends' if you selected them individually?
  2. I've created a Facebook account, again. lol! This is the 3rd time. Since I last deleted my account everything has changed. In the "newer" format (current) is there way to hide your friend list from everyone else? For example, if I add a friend, will all my friends see each other or is there a settting that none of my friends can see my other friends and that no one else can see my friends either?
  3. How terrible. Its so sad that society assumes most missing teens are runaways. :(
  4. You'll make the decision that is best. Its good that you care enough about the children to even consider taking action - most people would be complacent if they didn't like the family.
  5. Please tell me your thoughts or experience with this. Last cycle was a 'normal-for-me' 3 days flow, but then a week later had a 1 day flow. Now 12 days late....or 6 days late if I count from the 1 day flow. Took two pregnancy tests both said negative, however I am a heavy water drinker and took the tests later in the evening. I keep having leg cramps and am super-emotional as if I was having PMS, and I have been taking a lot of naps (I've fallen asleep trying to watch Frozen 5 times!) I am 41 so maybe it's menopause? Although I always thought there were other signs rather than just suddenly stopping. Also, I got a stationary bike a few days before my last cycle and have been riding about 5 miles almost every day since and I didn't exercise at all before. Thoughts?
  6. OTHER: I find it tragic anytime a parent intentionally harms their own child, no matter the reason. However to report something that you overheard, and only part of the conversation, well I think that is where a lot of misunderstandings stem from. Perhaps you could mention your concern to a church leader or co-op leader, and maybe try to befriend her? She sounds like she is in a position where she could easily be overwhelmed and unsure how to handle it - homeschooling 2 children - both need high parental involvement, with a baby, and leading the choir, and running a home, well, that is a lot for anyone. She really might not want to harm her children, but doesn't know of any different or better ways to deal with it.
  7. I totally can't find the virtual hug icon! but I wanted you to know: (((hug))) Some one else said to let her take the lead, and that's probably the best advice. One of the things that I've heard often is that in the end, the person dying feels okay with it and they wind up comforting the ones they have to leave behind. I'm so sorry, it must be so difficult.
  8. I loved these two books about North Korea and what people are doing to help others. Escape from North Korea: The Untold Story of Asia's Underground Railroad Escape from Camp 14
  9. My eldest was an only for a long time so I understand that feeling of protecting and also wanting your dear one to have other friends to play with. However, it's only a month so honestly, I would not do it. The idea sounds great in theory.... have you considered that the other children have been hanging out for the entire school year together, are all those children going back to public school next year? Will she be doing the program next year too? What exactly is the benefit (other than she sees children her age a few times)? In the long run, what would she get out of it? A month of hanging out with just mom and dad, biking, exploring, that sounds like a fun time that would build a stronger foundation for later years rather than the "socialization."
  10. NM I know my opinion is unpopular with this thread and I don't want to debate :)
  11. My unpoplular opinion: I just want to toss in that some teen girls really want to go...my friend's 15yo daughter has a girlfriend that went to a Purity Ball with her father and my friend's 15yo begged to be able to go with her own papa even though they don't attend church and aren't religious. She is in public school and constantly struggling with the over the top focus on sex in high school -who's doing it, who puts out, who's a prude- and she desparetly wanted to wear a Puirty ring and have the entire ceremony too. So adults think it's creepy, however some girls really love the idea. And the term "boyfriend" - to most younger girls, that term means the guy they hang out with, the guy that gives them gifts and attention, the guy that they try to please with how they look and dress. If these were grown women, of course boyfriend would mean something different to adults and it would be entirely inappropriate, but in this sitution, it kind of makes sense.
  12. How sad, but not surprising. I just read "I Fired God" (book recommended from here) and after reading her story, so much more of this kind of stuff makes sense. The oppression of women and placing all blame on women is absolutely heartbreaking. The author mentions Vision Forum and men like Doug and how it affects the women and children of the patriarchal families that listen to those men's teachings.
  13. Milovany, thanks for the link to the alternate site! I didn't know something like that existed.
  14. Oh honey! Yes, this is exactly why I asked here (I'm the OP.) I wanted to know what was in the range of "normal" before I acccidentally mentioned something that could make another parent feel terrible. It's been a long time since I've had a little one and I probably should just pull out all the books rather than try to go from memory and compare this youngest one to my older ones.
  15. Cardboard Banker's Boxes I homeschool toddler to teen with huge age gaps in between, so Banker's Boxes has worked out to save the ones we want to keep, but no one needs now. I've noticed all our books are themed in some way so I separated them out into different Banker's Boxes the way I saw them themed. For example: Paperbacks: Free Reading, Age 9-12 Historical Fiction, Age 9-12 Historical Ficiton, Teen Fiction picture books, Elementary non-fiction picture books. Seasonal books by age range, in different boxes, stored away until the right season. And then a handful set out in book baskets. Good luck. Sometimes a great book purge brings relief too :) I've been through two of them in 15 years.
  16. Actually, they might offer a discount if she has gone through the program, which would make not having gone through the program more expensive. In some states, parents are not charged for insurance if the teen has a permit - only when they get a license. Maybe she can start the program to get a permit and not log hours and skip the intermediate part?
  17. Just curious as to why? I looked into AHG, but they meet too late in the evening and there is age segregation. The one time we went, the leader sang this "Welcome" song over and over again, addressing to each girl's name. Most the girls were cringing or trying to hide when it was their name, but she kept singing. We left. I'm the OP and we did actually choose Frontier Girls, but signed up for both FG & GS to test them out. With the GS Troop - I constantly felt in the way and unwelcome, even though I registered myself as an adult for the troop. Nothing was family friendly, everything was age-specific. With the Frontier Girls, we have been welcome and all ages participate at their age level. All family members are invited to the field trips. It has been really good for us so far.
  18. Thanks for the link! It isn't only just recongizing colors - it's using them in a sentence, as an adjective: "I like purple cat. Cat is big. I have 2 cats."
  19. Nice. Thanks. My others were slow then. lol! One didn't understand concept of colors until 3! The other couldn't count for awhile, but in college now and still not good at math :)
  20. My youngest child seems to be way ahead of where my others were at the same age. Perhaps it is because we're homeschooling, but identifying things by color at about 18 months and counting things at around 2? Is that advanced or normal? I'm curious in case my other children were just slow. lol! I'd also like to know so that I can be mindful of what is "normal" when I'm around others. We don't push academics, but I know sometimes new homeschoolers get stressed if other children are doing things theirs aren't yet.
  21. I saw your user name and thought it said "Maybelline" and wound up cracking up because of that "Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline"
  22. Sometimes, and I feel happier and more productive when I do. Especially as I get older - it seems people are nicer to me if I'm wearing makeup. Maybe because I'm acting nicer myself, I don't know.
  23. No link? I want to read it now too.
  24. Long story short - we have a rental that needs to be returned this morning and we have our own bank ready to finance us. I've been looking at one particular vehicle for a few days and yesterday afternoon the dealership's manager called and told me that he could get us financing for our vehicle and we could have the car. Since our own bank was closed and we had to return the rental this morning, I agreed. Now my husband is a cash guy and doesn't really understand the contract/financial world. However I sent him by himself to sign the paperwork so I could stay home with the children. Ugh! My mistake. Anyway, my husband comes home last night without the car and without any paperwork they had him sign. He said we had to go in in the morning to get the papers and the car. From what he told me, they added extra stuff on that we hadn't agreed to, gave him a higher interest rate, and a longer loan term. I am so thoroughly irritated since the only reason we agreed to their financing is to have the car this morning BEFORE we had to return the rental. Which comes to my question - since we didn't take possession of the vehicle, can we cancel the financial contract or just walk away from the entire deal? ETA: He also wrote them a check that I could stop payment on this morning.

    sesame oil

Thanks! I was worried, but not so much now. I used it on veggie fried rice and a side of seasoned steamed spinach.
