  1. Dh had zero side effects. Both dc and I were off our normal for about two days. The first day after we all felt like we had the flu - all over body aches, headaches, brain fog, not wanting to eat. The second day was just recovering from feeling so bad and not eating and drinking very much the day prior. My sleep was messed up and my heart rate was low for about a week as well. It was weird but it eventually worked itself out.
  2. I have no trouble believing those statistics. I feel I’ve had an extremely privileged life but I, myself, was sexually abused at nine and my own mother had a short marriage prior to my dad and her dh beat the crap out of her. I don’t think anyone would guess that about either of us. The topic is interesting. Dh comes from a large family and all his siblings are adopted. Four of them have had no trouble in their lives while the other two have been in and out of jail and one has even lost her kids. There was no difference in how they were raised and all were adopted as infants. There was always a lot of familial support offered but there was very little money available for help outside of that.
  3. I’m up between 6:30-7 and make a pot of tea (and have at least an hour to myself). Around 8-8:30 I make breakfast and dh usually comes out of his office to join (he starts work around 7). If the weather is nice and he has time we’ll take a walk after we eat. 9-11am - I workout, shower, and get ready for the rest of the day.
  4. My 18 and 21 year old dc had their second Pfizer yesterday and they are a mess this morning. Youngest has POTS and sent me a text asking for Pedialyte because they felt too shaky to come downstairs. On the way up, I met oldest basically crawling down because he wanted water. I sent him to bed and told him I would bring it up. They seem to have had a reaction similar to mine and just hurt all over like with the flu. They’ve now even asked for popsicles and I honestly can’t remember the last time either did that.
  5. My dh actually started working from home a few years before Covid and it was really difficult in the beginning. He has an extra bedroom for his office so he’s not in anyone’s space for work. We had an honest talk about schedules and that helped the most. He kept coming to talk and want to take a walk around 10 am which is in the middle of my workout time so now he knows not to bother me between 9-11. I know not to bother him when the office door is closed. He purchased good noise canceling headphones for all his meetings which helped a lot so I don’t feel a need to be quiet all day. We also set up a schedule for meals since we like to eat together and if he has a conflict he will text me as soon as he knows so I can change it. Just be honest about what you need and how the day’s schedule should look.
  6. We paid movers for two long moves and both ended up being awful! The first changed the price after picking up and wouldn’t deliver until we paid (we eventually worked it out with a lawyer but had to pay first to get our stuff). The second was two weeks late and somehow a few big items never made it. We’ve moved ourselves since but never had such a long break. I guess if I were you I would probably rent a storage unit for the month to unload and then reload.
  7. I’ve been fully vaccinated since last month and I just saw that only 38% of my age group is vaxxed in my state (that’s at least one shot). Anyone who wants to get a vaccine can easily get one here at this time so there is no way we would have ever kept restrictions until 70% are vaccinated. I think there are about 10 states that are doing worse than us as well. I don’t completely agree with lifting all the mask mandates (I was upset when ours ended in April) but I am confused what’s stopping other states from keeping it if they want, especially if some truly still haven’t been doing face to face school yet. Our school district has been in person full time since beginning of August so it’s not surprising to me that people here don’t care about any of the restrictions. I don’t know. I just know there are going to be several states that probably never hit that 70%, or whatever, number of vaccinated people that some want so I never assumed that is what would be used to determine when restrictions get lifted. I’m going to continue to wear a mask but that’s really all I can do.
  8. I think for some of us it just doesn’t really change anything. My state hasn’t had a mask mandate since beginning of April, and even though some stores still “require” it I haven’t seen any actually enforce it. I was at Kroger this morning and only about half the shoppers were wearing one even though there are signs everywhere when you enter that it is a requirement. So many had a mask around their neck but weren’t wearing it because they were drinking their Starbucks. So, the CDC’s new guidance just doesn’t really change anything here. ETA: Only 40% of our population has been vaccinated so it’s obvious many more than have been vaccinated have chosen to go without masks. I have zero faith that my state will get anywhere near 70% of people vaccinated because so many here do not want to.
  9. I don’t have any under 12s but I don’t think the new guidelines are going to matter much here. We haven’t had a mask mandate, or really any other restrictions, for months and we don’t have even 40% of the population vaccinated. You can get same day appointments here but the people who wanted them have already had them it seems. Despite all that our cases and positivity rate have been decreasing for a bit now. We’re all vaccinated in this house but will continue to mask when inside public places. Dh and I just got back from eating and walking around downtown and no one wears a mask outside anymore. The playground was packed and there appeared to be a girl’s volleyball tournament taking place so there were lots of people. We still haven’t eaten inside anywhere as there are plenty of outdoor places for us to enjoy.
  10. When I see it in the younger crowd, like my young adults, I think it can mean either. For myself, it’s obvious that I’m an ally. I have a rainbow bumper sticker and it says, “Ally AF”, and I have a few shirts for Pride events but they also identify me as an ally (like free mom hugs shirts and stuff). Both of my dc are part of the LGBT community and I just want it to be clear I’m an ally.
  11. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L1RBBVI?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title I have these Columbia pants and carry my phone and DL/CC in the pockets most of the time instead of a purse. The side pockets are big enough for my iPhone and there’s a zipper pocket on one side for my cards and stuff. There’s also two Velcro pockets in the back. They are also super comfortable and I have several of them.
  12. I know all of my siblings teach in a state that doesn’t pay SS. At one point long ago dh thought about teaching but at that time we were told if he switched he would only be able to collect one or the other at retirement, so it wasn’t worth it. My sister also thought about changing careers from teaching years ago and it was the retirement/SS issue that made her decide against switching.
  13. I agree with those who say not to take things away but instead to add things such as more family time and responsibilities. My parents made me cut out a few good friends when I was 16 and I repaid them by dropping out of high school. 🙃 I didn’t go crazy but I hated school and I remember feeling like they allowed me zero control over my own life. I went right to work and actually landed in a great job that allowed me to pay my own way, but I’ve tried to remember not to be so punitive with my own dc. Oldest is 21 and I know he uses edibles from time to time for anxiety but he’s always been a really responsible person and student. I just listen because I do like that he shares with me.
  14. This conversation has turned into one of the weirdest! I honestly don’t think a large percentage of college students would lie about the vaccine if it was required because if found out most colleges would kick them out. Some college kids do really stupid things but the majority have no desire to be booted out. Both of my dc are in college and they do know some who don’t want to get the vaccine, but those same students have said they obviously will get it if required (because most of them will actually do the right thing and not lie about it).
  15. My mom didn’t acknowledge me on this day until my oldest was about five. My mom complained when we were leaving a Mother’s Day lunch and said, “But it’s Mother’s Day“. I replied it was indeed, that I was also a mother, and I was now going to spend the remainder of it with my kids. She looked surprised and apologized later. When I tell her happy Mother’s Day now she always reciprocates.
  16. I’m surprised by the Texas comments. It’s where I was born and raised and where the majority of my family are still living. They are spread all over the state. They are very different from me in regards to religion and politics but almost every single one of them, ages 16 to 80s, have had their vaccines. My college age niece and college cousins have all at least had their first dose. It wasn’t even a question. I was honestly surprised they’ve received the vaccine but according to them it’s what most people they know are doing.
  17. Wow! It was weird seeing this pop up over a year later (and with my old user name that I got locked out of). We’ve done zero traveling due to Covid so I haven’t thought about the stroller since. We had so many trips planned. 🙃 Dog does have more arthritis in the leg now so it is something I will probably get once we start traveling with her again.
  18. So, I haven’t slept well since my second Pfizer shot last Wednesday. I only sleep 2-3 hours at a time and it’s taking me a bit to fall back asleep. I tried a low dose of melatonin last night for the first time ever and it did nothing, so I plan on trying a bit higher dose tonight. Also, my resting heart rate since Thursday has dropped into the 50s when it’s usually between 62-65. I’m not sure if I should be concerned or not. I’m not having symptoms of anything other than not sleeping so I’m going to wait a few more days and see what happens.
  19. I homeschooled mine from 1st through 5th, and then youngest also did senior year at home/dual enrollment. We had a great middle school dc could walk to and they enjoyed their time there. We moved and the high school here was a bit too competitive for youngest so she came home for her final year. Both are in college now but I still hang out here.
  20. Both of my young adult dc had their first Pfizer yesterday and have zero side effects. Hoping they are like their dad and have none after the second as well. I’m almost back to normal after my second.
  21. I’ve never worn an apron and I’m not the cleanest cook. Thinking about it, neither did my parents or grandparents and we’re from the South so lots of fried foods were being cooked. It just was never a thing any of us did.
  22. Yesterday was pretty awful (after second dose of Pfizer). The body aches by midday were on par with the one time I’ve had the flu and it was miserable. I feel so much better today except for my armpit pain due to a swollen lymph node. It’s still really tender and uncomfortable when I move, and sleeping was difficult. I’m hoping it goes away soon and I’m going to continue to take it easy the next few days until it feels better. Both dc get their first dose today!
  23. I found this board after reading the book when I started homeschooling my dc. They were in 1st and 3rd grade - now they’re both in college. 😳
  24. Quoting myself to add that there is a weird fatigue as well. Reading threads here is difficult. I keep finding myself just sitting here staring out the window. I’m not sleepy but just have zero energy for anything.
  25. I had my second Pfizer shot yesterday around lunch. Only had a slightly sore arm when I went to bed, but I woke up feeling crummy. Really sore arm, headache, and just kind of hurt all over. One arm pit hurts (arm I had the shot in) so assuming swollen lymph node. Not as bad as when I had the flu but still not fun. Hoping it doesn’t get any worse.
