  1. My dh has a wonderful way of dealing with situations where others have suggestions about what he should do, he simply says, "That's a good idea." Then moves on. It doesn't mean he is going to do it. He makes no more statements. Just acknowledges the other's suggestion. Just because a family member, friend or acquaintence makes a suggestion does not mean you have to do it, and for some people they just want their idea validated. Whether their suggestion is actually followed is none of their business in most cases. And truly, they'll likely forget about the entire conversation very quickly.
  2. Played 2 hrs of ladies doubles tennis this morning. It was super fun! Lots of hitting the ball and running all over the court. I'll be going for the dog walk this afternoon - hopefully before the snow storm. 😉
  3. I was very active at that age, mostly outdoors and often with my sister who was 2 years younger than me. We'd play in the backyard and the back alley, throwing softballs, playing soccer, cycling, skipping, walking the fence, doing some basic tumbling on the grass, build snow forts, skate, sled. My siblings and I all participated in competitive swimming and softball. At our cabin (a very basic shack), we'd climb trees, swim, kayak, skate, cross-country ski, sled, snowshoe, play tag with all the kids in the area, and water ski. I have lots of wonderful memories of all the fun times! I've tried to instill that same love for being outdoors and active with my dc. There was always more emphasis on recreational activities than competitive sports back then for myself, and now for my dc.
  4. @Laura Corin Hope you're feeling better soon and able to walk again. @PinkTulip Welcome back to the thread! I'm in a similar boat as you, with good exercise but needing to work on healthy eating. All the best! -------------------------------------------------------------- My goals for Jan and Feb are to keep up with my daily dog walks in the woods, tennis about 3x/week, and fixing up my eating patterns. I've already had some good progress on eliminating cookies and chips post-Christmas, replacing with more healthy snacks. I also need to get more intentional about my weight-training and stretching for injury prevention. Perhaps a visual check-list or something to help remind me to get them done daily might help. I'm also going to keep going with alcohol-free beverages. It's improved my sleep so much! I wasn't a heavy drinker by any means, but I've really noticed a difference in my sleep by cutting out the occassional hard cider after tennis.
  5. I'm feeling like a typical North American kid looking at most people's descriptions. Western Canada, urban, 1970s Breakfast - toast and peanut butter, cereal, or instant hot oatmeal, sometimes there was juice Lunch - (No school lunchrooms ever available) cheese and crackers, carrots and fruit (I didn't like sandwiches) Dinner - Homemade mostly from scratch, a varitey of meats, canned, frozen or fresh veg, often potatoes as dad grew up on a farm and potatoes and bread were a 'must' at dinner. Dessert - not daily but pretty frequent, usually canned fruit, pudding or ice cream Snacks - popcorn, cheese, crackers, fruit, pop (soda) We didn't eat out very often. For special occassions it would be going to a nice Chinese restaurant. I loved those times!
  6. According to the radar, we're only getting light flurries and the major snow is missing us. We already got a few flurries, but it's stopped now.
  7. So sorry. Big hugs to your child and to you.
  8. I know exactly how it feels to wish for snow and then get tired of it pretty fast! 😉 Personally, I'd love to have all the snow on grass and dirt and forests, but not on roads, sidewalks or driveways. I'd really love winters like this. The shovelling and driving on snowy/icy roads is the part that really annoys me. I just want to play in the snow with skis. Also, I wish winters weren't very cold.
  9. I wasn't feeling great yesterday - perhaps allergies from unseasonably warm weather. I only did the morning dog walk, then rested for the day. Today is cold outdoors and I'm feeling much better. Got the morning dog walk in, and will also do the afternoon dog walk. I'm scheduled to play singles tennis tomorrow morning.
  10. I played 2 hrs of ladies doubles tennis, which is fast-paced and really fun. At one point, I leaned into a shot a little too far and fell sideways. I won the point (Yay!) but ended up with abrasions on my lower leg and elbow. I also got in a very nice dog walk in the afternoon. This year I want to keep up with the daily walks in the woods with the dogs, play tennis about 3x/week, add in regular stretching and some light weights to prevent injuries. Avoiding falling will help, too! 🤪
  11. I played 2 hrs of mixed doubles tennis last night, and another 1.5 hrs today. I'm wiped out. I managed 2 dog walks yesterday, but only had energy for one today. I have a few rest days until more tennis next Tuesday.
  12. Yes, that extra lockiness is so important! 😂
  13. Excellent! It sounds like the perfect fit for you! All the best moving forward!
  14. It sounds like a great opportunity! I would say definitely do it IF the program provides the necessary certification to be able to do the additional counseling that you really want to do - and also if it's the only way to do it. I'd do some hard investigation into the type of counselling you'd be allowed to do, and what your future work would look like. Would you actually have the time to keep helping clients in more ways than you do now.
  15. We have very mild weather here, and the snow is all melted with only some ice left on the trails in the woods. I don't want to complain, as the driving is great and it's really comfortable outdoors, but a little bit of white ground cover would be nice. 😉 I'm getting in my double daily dog walks in the woods this week. I'm also adding in some injury preventative exercises for tennis to get my wrists a little stronger. Heading out to dinner with dh as it's our 27th anniverary today!
  16. Sorry about all the rain and flooding. That's no fun at this time of year! Hope your place stays dry indoors.
  17. That's a shame. It's a good thing that you checked in advance, though, and avoided unpleasant surprises on the roadtrip. Hope you have a great time in Ireland!
  18. Along the lines of auto painting is graphic installation, which includes sign design and installation, auto graphic wraps, etc. It's very hands on, and can incorporate many different construction elements but doesn't have to.
  19. Costa Rica is lovely! There are nice beaches and really warm water for swimming and surfing/body surfing. Lots of cool animals to see. Delicious food. Very safe. There are a variety of different tours and adventures to try if you want to, like zip lining, snorkling, kayaking, boating on the ocean or in a mangrove forest.
  20. I've been walking the dogs in the woods daily over the last few days. I also went for a lovely walk with my friend yesterday. Today I'm playing ladies doubles tennis! It'll be great to get back out on the court. I haven't played in 4 days. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas! It was quiet and relaxing here. Just what everyone seemed to need.
  21. Sure, everyone one is worthy of love, whether you want to label this as a 'good' kid or now.. This is a sneaky, dangerous kid who does not have the best interests of SKL's family at heart at all. I don't see how he's benefitting from bringing alcohol to a 15 and 17 year old. They should are hell aren't benefitting. I'd be VERY careful about ever having him in my house. The consequences for this kind of illegal and dangerous behaviour brought into my own house would be very harsh. I would have a very tough time ever trusting them again.
  22. I think different people can tolerate humidity better than others, but a lot is also one's mindset. I'll play 2 hrs tennis in 85 degrees and humid, drink lots of water, and shower after playing. It's far quicker to warm up the body and be nice and limber in warm, humid weather than in the cold. Perhaps you can mental and physically embrace the warmth. It really is lovely. You can do yoga, swim in an outdoor pool, walk, paddle/row on the water and enjoy that gorgeous warm weather.
  23. I know of no "rule" stating that social invitations much be reciprocated. Unless it's an organized group where people take turns hosting, then hosting a gathering is voluntary with no expectation of recieving an invitation from everyone who attended.
  24. Since you are dealing with your own kids, I won't comment. I'd sure be disappointed in my own dc's behaviour and poor choices. What are you thinking of saying to the boy's mom? Are you suggesting that it was her alcohol? What do you hope to achieve in the discussion? You really only have control over who enters your home. Don't let the boy come over anymore is about all you actually could do - that and try to stop your dc from seeing him, I'm thinking (certainly stop them driving your vehicle). ETA: I'm a little confused that you continue to say that you "love this guy" when he went behind your back to do this and put your kids' lives in danger by suggesting they drive. He'd be out on his ear and no more displaced "love" there - certainly no second chances.
