  1. Went for a nice dog walk this morning, and then had 2 hrs of fast paced tennis. Lots of fun. I'm keeping up with my stretch and strength work, almost daily. This is a little like how I'm feeling about my push-ups now, though. It would be more fun to watch someone do them. 😉
  2. I'm finding that linking a couple things together help me get things done that I might not otherwise go out of my way to do. I walk in the woods daily with my dogs, I do my stength and stretch exercises in front of the tv, I only drink sweet beverages if I bike to the store to get them. An additional nudge is tracking my fitness where others can see (here on the Well Trained Body thread). You seem pretty active on the forum, so perhaps tapping into some outside motivation might help? For the times your dh is not around to walk with you, post on this forum that you got your walk done. Also, self-talk is important. If you say "I cannot make myself do it," then you won't . If you reframe your selt-talk to something more flexible, it might help. Something like, "I know that when I get out there and walk, I do enjoy it, but those first few steps are the hardest."
  3. The singles tennis went really well yesterday! It was a ton of fun, but much harder on the body than doubles. Today I had 2 hrs of hard hitting doubles, which was super fun as well. My body really needs some good rest and recovery now. 😉 I got in a morning dog walk in the woods today, and I'll do some relaxing yoga this afternoon.
  4. Great job for perservering and passing the test!! I found that the first 5 patterns were the hardest to learn and memorize, because most of the movements are new and there is a lot to learn. The later patterns only introduce a couple new movements, so they are easier, plus by then you've had hundreds more reps of the first patterns and muscle memory helps you out a lot.

  6. I filled in at mixed doubles tennis for a friend last night, which was fun, but now I have to play 1.5 hrs of singles tennis and my body is feeling a little sore and sluggish. I even did some very gentle stretching this morning. Hopefully I'll liven up once I get out on the court. 😉 Got in a morning dog walk in the woods with dh in the sunshine! It's always a treat to have bright sun in winter! 😊
  7. Just for clarity, can a player on a U16 team be older than 16? When players on a U18 team also "play down" on a U16 team is that because they are under16 but choose to play with under 18 year olds in the U18 and under 16 year olds in a U16 team? If my under 16 year old daughter was suddenly being forced to play against 17 year old males in a sport like hockey, I'd get her out of there immediately and be requiring my money returned, then potentially starting a law suit against the league. The risk of serious physical injury is huge. Yes, playing time is an important factor, and all the promises made about playing time to foster development is really important, too. Ultimately, my child's physical safety is going to trump all that. One serious concussion could change a young person's life for years. It is not worth the risk (my ds is still suffering the affects of a serious concussion 3 years later).
  8. That much I recognized. 😅 The amount and shape of the snow on the branches is what stood out to me. The shapes of the snow on the tree limbs are smooth and very abundunt, which made me think that perhaps the air is particularly humid. You're in Maine, right? The snow on fir trees in my region is of a drier climate doesn't tend to accumulate as much on the trees as it's drier and falls off before it accumulates.
  9. @Eos Cool photo! The snow on the trees looks really wild! Is that effect from your camera or something special in the weather causing it? I got in a second dog walk and 2 hrs of tennis in the late afternoon and evening. It was raining, which is going to mess up all the lovely snow we have.
  10. @Ali in OR Thanks for starting the new month! All the best with your Lenten journey! I've been really enjoying my daily strength and stretch work-out! It's pretty amazing how adding it into my lunch-time routine has energized my day. Why was I so lazy for so long? 😉 Oh well, at least I'm hooked on this new routine now. The daily dog walks are also a necessary part of my day now. It just feels weird when I can't go. And tennis 3-4 times a week is just right! Got in the morning dog walk today, and there's evening ladies doubles tennis later on.
  11. Beavertails are definitely best when eaten fresh from the vendor. My personal favourite is a Beavertail eaten while skating on the frozen Rideau Canal in Ottawa!
  12. Smarties are also VERY different in the US compared to Canada. In Canada, Smarties are chocolate 'buttons' covered in coloured candy, very similar to M&Ms. In the US, Smarites are candies that are exactly like what we in Canada call Rockets. It's so confusing collecting Halloween candy in the US when you're used to Canadian candy! 😅
  13. Got in a dog walk in the woods and my stretch and strength work today! No tennis today, so I'll probably do one more dog walk this afternoon.
  14. I skipped the morning dog walk because I was playing tennis, but the power went off inside the tennis dome just as we walked out on the court. Rats! Returned home and did a 30 min strength and stretch session instead. I'll do the dog walk this afternoon.

  16. I had a similar experience with the puppy joining me on my mat work. I love the tummy rubs, but not the chewing on my mat. 😅
  17. I just got in a really nice strength and stretch work-out this afternoon while watching the Australian Open men's finals match. The work-out felt great! I'm going to gradually build this up to 3x/week. Also got in a second dog walk in the woods.

Congratualtions for all the time and effort you've put in, working through all the physical pain!! @Laura Corin I really hope you are feeling better for your holiday! @Wheres Toto Great job with eating healthy, being active and losing weight! @bookbard All the best with balancing the physical activity and eating! It's challenging. ------------------------------------------------------------ I played 2 hrs of really fun doubles tennis. It felt so good to get back after an entire week away. I also got in a dog walk in the woods yesterday and today. Again, really nice to get out again after missing 2 days. The dogs were really getting wild without their walks, but the freezing rain just wouldn't stop.
  19. I'd bring him to your pediatrician or family doctor. Bathroom issues are definitely up there with things that need to be addressed medically and in a timely manner. There are a lot of different things that might be at play, and a good dr will help narrow down the causes.
  20. I got in a really nice, long dog walk in the woods with dd yesterday afternoon. Really glad we did, as there was freezing rain last night and today there is a very thick layer of ice over everything. The puppy was afraid to walk on the ice to go potty this morning, but I chopped through enough ice so all the dogs could walk a little easier. No walk in the woods today. 😌

  22. Sadly, tennis was cancelled last night, which worked out well as I wasn't feeling great. I'm much better this morning, and heading out for a dog walk in the woods now.
