  1. Yes, I definitely need to read this book. I never intended to use all those different math programs he simply kept plowing through math faster and faster so I kept throwing more his way. I am nervous about going too far, too fast. Maybe this book will help with that. He just turned 10 two weeks ago so he was on the young side of 4th grade last year. But, yeah, I need to let go of the reins a little.
  2. Great to see you on this thread. Thanks for all the resources below!
  3. I'll have to see if he knows about this one. Thank you. I will look into these. Thanks. I was thinking of doing Apologia Physical science with him (because I have it), probably starting it during the 2nd semester. He's keen on doing Ellen McHenry's neurology during the 1st semester. And he has 3 science class at co-op during the first semester, one which helps him prepare for the science fair this winter so that's a big help. My son gloms everything electronic that is deemed broken. We have screws everywhere. Dissections are a big reason he wants to do the Neurology class mentioned above. Thanks for all the great ideas!
  4. Truthfully I really don't know. We watched Elegant Universe last night and he understood everything, even argued with Brian Greene a few times. No, but we do have a very large kit. I'll look into that thanks. I'll have to check these out. Thanks, He just finished 6 grade math with Horizons, Singapore 5B, and LOF Pre-algebra biology. I've been holding him back by giving him more math. He's working through LOF Economics this summer for fun. I was going to have him do AOPs pre-algebra in 5th grade (haven't purchased it yet) and he never wants to stop Fred. He gets all the math he has ever attempted and could probably be farther along if I didn't have him complete 3 math curricula a year, well next year two, AOPS and LOF Algebra.
  5. Lucky him :thumbup1: Truly, I feel so bad for my son. My husband is an amazing artist and musician, I'm, well, I like to read the great books and theology  My son has no one to talk to about his theories on dimensions, particles, waves, string theory, etc. Doesn't stop him from talking about it though.
  6. Please post your best resources for STEM advanced children. This would be for my particle physics obsessed, algebra word problem lovin', computer programming crazed 10 yo and for his "I have no clue" mother. Books, web sites, summer camps, anything and everything. Thank you. :001_smile:
  7. Yes, PHC's food is pretty good. Love the salad bar.
  8. I really got a lot out of SWB's talk on literary analysis. Here's the handout and audio.
  9. That I will remember. Great word picture. re: LOST, me too. I erased my dvr which contained every episode because I was so disgusted with the cop out ending.
  10. What is that a picture of? Genie coming out of a heart shaped bottle on a beach? Something from LOST?
  11. I tend to remember posters better when they have an avatar and when the word "mom" isn't in their name. There are so many moms it's hard to keep them straight. That said, I don't post here much any more, so maybe it's just me. Now I'll probably remember you mrbmom77. Plus I just used your name in a sentence, old memory trick. Now I'm rambling.
  12. Love Celebration, dh and I dream of moving there one day. In our dreams we are zipping around town on our Segways. :D Eating dinner at Cafe D'Antonio. :thumbup1:
  13. We love WTMer's in NJ. The more the merrier. :cheers2:
  14. It's not very thorough for history (scheduled readings in Spielvogel) when compared with TOG but I do love the literature. Next year I'll be using Omnibus III/VI (picking books from each) for literature and TOG 4 history with my ds17.
  15. Ds9 Math: LOF Pre-A Economics, AoPS pre-algebra, LOF Algebra I History & Literature: TOG Year 3 dialectic Science: Ellen McHenry Cell Biology and Intro to Neurology, co-op classes Grammar: CLE, not sure which level yet, will check at GHC Writing: WWS? Latin: finish Latin Book 1, start Latin Book 2 Logic: The Thinking Toolbox followed by the Fallacy Detective Art: co-op classes Greek: We may start this in January, after we finish LB1. We'll use EG I think. I'll check out Greek for Children A at GHC
  16. It's the same book I linked Sydni, the Metaxas book. The Piper book is probably more accessible. Both books can be previewed at Amazon.
  17. So true. The school my oldest attends seems to be a lightening rod for opinions from all sides. We have found a majority of the opinions to be either outright false (usually this) or at least not something that we are troubled by (sometimes that.) We hesitated briefly until we visited because of the negative comments. I love the school now and wish all my children could attend but really, at this point it's probably only a good fit for my oldest. I'm praying hard that they expand their program in the next 9 years to accommodate my STEM geared son. :D
  18. I've used it from 9-12 and it was a good fit for all. For neurology we dissected sheep brains, I can't remember if that was an extra lab I added or if it's suggested. Karen
  19. IRL I rarely mention my dc's accomplishments. My ds9 is precocious and people notice him on their own. Although I have to admit to sharing some of the things he comes out with on Facebook. He makes me smile and I like sharing it. To any of you who are my fb friends I hope you don't roll your eyes too much. :blush5:
