  1. I understand there seems to be copywork and daily prayers which are easy to avoid but is this still a bad choice for secular homeschoolers?
  2. This is our first Christmas as vegetarians. Christmas Eve: Flatbread pizzas Christmas breakfast is going to be a Hashbrown Egg Bake & Fruit Salad Christmas Dinner is going to be Veggie Pot Pie w Biscuits, Broccoli Quinoa Casserole and roasted Veg and Peas. Christmas dessert is glutenfree Caramel Apple cheesecake and ice cream
  3. My husband and I have had zero colds since November 2019. 🙌 My kids caught a cold in September this year after visiting cousins even though no one had been sick before or during the visit.
  4. I have an almost 12yo who is also not that trendy. Her interests are mostly creative: drawing, knitting, sewing, watching movies. Her Christmas gifts are: 1. Knitting bag & knitting book 2. Fuji Instax Polaroid Camera 3. Ella Enchanted book series 4. Lush bath products(bath bombs & bubble bars) For her birthday we got her a sterling silver name necklace and she wears it daily.
  5. Sigh. Decided we had to cancel any big social gatherings because of the Omicron variant and because here in Canada they have only started vaccinating 5-11yos So, it's no big Christmas gatherings. It's the 2nd Christmas in a row and only our 3rd Christmas since being back. Anyways, thanks for joining my pity party.
  6. On Christmas Eve we watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas(original version with Boris Karloff) and eat grilled cheese. We have been doing that every year since we started dating and the kids always look forward to it so it continues.
  7. Our favourites so far are things that we love with the meat removed such as : broccoli quinoa Casserole, vegetable pot Pie(we use great Northern beans) with biscuit topping. This time of year we love lentil soup or veg(broccoli or tomato) soup, tempeh stir fry/fried rice.
  8. - Eat healthy-ish - got my covid shots - get the flu shot - wear an N95 mask in public areas when I have to go out - don't go outside in public unless I absolutely have to(grocery store, pharmacy)
  9. We made a new to us recipe and I thought I would share just in case you're vegetarian or maybe you're having a vegetarian over for Christmas. https://thewimpyvegetarian.com/broccoli-casserole-with-cheese-and-quinoa/ We made modifications - we used regular cheddar cheese and glutenfree breadcrumbs that were tossed with parsley and garlic salt.
  10. My 2 boys are very different. One has eaten adult portions since he was 4 or 5 and the other one mostly subsists on air 😄. They are 8.5.
  11. 1. Veg Pot Pie w Biscuits(today) 2. Tempeh Fried Rice 3. Broccoli Cheddar Soup 4. Leftovers 5. Eggs, Fruit & Hashbrowns 6. Pizza 7. Spaghetti with Red Lentil Sauce
  12. I have been sitting here in the quiet for the past hour. I definitely need to start getting on with the day before everyone wakes up. - Make Baked Oatmeal for breakfast - Wash winter stuff(mitts, gloves, neckwarmers) - Declutter toy room with kids for donating Freezer Cooking - Make Egg Muffins(Broc&Cheddar, Spinach&Mozza) - Make French Toast Sticks - Make Peanut Butter Banana Muffins
  13. We eat baked Oatmeal at least 3 times a week here. I didn't even think of it because we have it so often but you're right, I bet lots of people would enjoy it.
  14. I forgot about monkey bread. Definitely adding that to the list.
  15. I had to Google French Toast casserole. It looks delicious. I bet the kids would love it which is a bonus.
  16. Oh. My. Gosh. So cute!
  17. In 2019 when we moved back to my home province, we started a Christmas Day breakfast tradition with my family. Obviously, 2020 put a damper on it that year but we are implementing it again this year. Of course, this year we have also had changes. We are a vegetarian family now(but will serve meat) and we are hoping to do foods that don't require a lot of people touching items so things served with spoons is ideal. I have come up with a Veg Hashbrown Casserole, Sausage Hashbrown Casserole and fruit salad. Any other ideas? My mom suggested croissants and ham and sliced cheese but would people adhere to the forks? I don't trust the kids 🤣.
  18. Treats made, house vacuumed and steam mopped and laundry done. First load of laundry started. Currently side tracked by making my Christmas/Eve menu. I made the mistake of asking my kids so now I have a lot of opinions to contend with!
  19. - wrap presents for kids - make holiday treats for local fire station - laundry, towels, sheets and rugs Not to bad. Keeping up with life these days!
  20. Those are a must! I am thinking with 3 girls though, we may do walk in closet for them and for the primary bedroom upstairs.
  21. Keep the ideas coming please! Adding to our list - main floor food pantry( I can't believe I forgot about this) - 2 larger bathrooms suitable for wheelchairs/old age - stairs but low & wide(if we have to go downstairs) - ideally, 2 bedrooms upstairs & 2 downstairs. Large living area on bottom floor and top floor. - large mudroom - lots of lights - main floor laundry
  22. I love the large landing area idea! We currently have a medium sized entrance and it would work probably if you have a small family but with 5 kids barreling through the door it is quite small. I will add that to the list! My mom recommended lots of lighting and to get under tile heating for bathrooms because of our cold climate so that's on the list too.
  23. We very quickly moved at the end of December 2019. We moved into a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house that was bigger than our place out west but has never felt like home. We have always had plans to buy a plot of land and now we did! We bought 2.5 acres just on the other side of the city that we live in currently. Funny enough it was a friend of my MILs who had the property. I'm sure with the price of building supplies it will still be a few years away for completion but we are making a list of our must-haves. We are thinking of a bungalow because we ideally want this house to last us until our old age. - kids bedrooms and play area downstairs. - primary bedroom, office & laundry room upstairs. - open concept Large living room & kitchen
  24. I need to put away our patio furniture(it snowed this week!) I finished the laundry this morning and kids are putting it away We need to rake the leaves in the backyard and front yard. Hoping to rope the kids into it after they put the laundry away.
