  1. We have looked at Oak Meadow, Bookshark and Build Your Library. She is leaning towards Build Your Library 8 because she wants to do Story of Science. She doesn't love science and much prefers to read so I hope it's a good fit. Hoping to add in Encounter Canada Geography. I don't want to overwhelm her so I suggested Art and Home Ec as two electives that she would find enjoyable and "easy" to do and she seems fine with that. She may want to videography instead of Art but I think the bulk of her credits will be through Build Your Library.
  2. I had my youngest just 2 weeks after my 36th birthday. I'm glad that I was able to sleep through the night before I was 40 too 🤣
  3. My youngest is 18mo. She has been a good sleeper and now I can officially say she's sleeping through the night. It's the first time in 14 years(pregnant with my 1st) that I've slept through the night rather consistently.
  4. I don't love any of the options. Oak Meadow, Essentials in Literature, Brave Writer, Lightning Literature. Brave Writer has modern books but doesnt feel like what I want. I want modern books but a rigorous literature study. This is a kid who likes books and reading and is leaning towards university.

  7. Decided to go for Beast Academy. I'm just going to buy 1A book/teachers manual to start and I'll buy each one as we go to make it feel less overwhelming.
  8. Hmmmm I was under the impression it was 2 parts with 2 books. Maybe I need to look at it again.
  9. For my older kids I did JUMP Math from K-3 and went to CTC Math. My gifted son we hodge podged math. My upcoming first grader seems like she has some math intuition so I want to challenge her but the two options I know of Beast Academy and Singapore Dimensions have so many moving parts that it makes my head spin. What are some other options I'm not thinking of?
  10. I have All about Spelling Levels 1-6 B&W edition. My upcoming 1st grader likes color and whimsy. I can't decide if I should upgrade to the color edition since I will have a second student coming up after her. Has anyone used both? Is it worth it to upgrade?
  11. I am just at the research part of planning since this is the 1st time I've done high school. She will most likely be doing an online university when she's done high school but I know things can change so I'm not putting all my eggs in there. I know she will most likely want to do Art for electives and she will do Canadian Geography and Mathusee Algebra 1 but currently in research mode for English, Science and electives.
  12. May 2004. My husband and I at 17 and 18yo.
  13. Here in Canada we have a Child Tax Benefit that everyone receives except for the very rich based on how much you make, how old your kids are and how many kids you have. We use that to pay for extracurriculars and homeschool curriculum. We have 6 kids so we do get a significant amount each month.

  16. I am good at research and finding information or people. I am also a really fast typer(100wpm) and I can streamline/get rid of things without a second thought.
  17. It's my 1.5yo favourite toy. She serves us tea, she pretend chops the fruit. The best part is it doesn't feel babyish so my older kids will play with it with her for hours.
  18. I'm just starting to plan for grade 1. Will most likely be repeats from my older kids but I'm looking into Beast Academy but I might wait until Grade 2.

  20. 24ish? I had worked full time for 4 years and been able to bank that money while we used my husbands pay cheque for 2 years(once he finished school) for our expenses. We bought a small place for $200,000ish. We had our first baby on the way.
  21. *HE GOT THE JOB!! He starts April 29th* My husband has been in the very long process in getting a federal govt job. He is in the last round of interviews(yes! Interviews). He currently works in the Canadian animation business as well as being in the army reserves so that we can have extended health/pension benefits for our large family. With this possible job he will be able to work regular hours, no weekends. We need all the good thoughts and prayers because this possibility could transform our family.
  22. We are on Lesson 50 of 100 EZ lessons. It's been so painless with her. I do think she could have learned no matter what I used but I'm glad I went with the minimalist option. I have just started pondering my options for all of my kids for next year. It will be strange with a 1st grader and a 9th grader.
  23. I assumed it was a tummy tuck of sorts for diastis rectus. She's had 3 pregnancies. Call me cynical but I assumed it wasn't anything actually serious.
  24. I second these books - my almost 6 year old has loved both series. I read them to her but they dont have a ton of words on each Page so as a first Chapter book it would be perfect!
