  1. I agree with this: Question: Will a husband and wife be reunited in heaven? Answer: In heaven we will be reunited with all the believers we have known in life, as well as united with all other believers whom we have yet to meet. However, the marital unions of earth will not be continued in heaven (Matt. 22:24-30; Mark 12:19-25; Luke 20:28-36). We do not know exactly what our relationships will be with one another in heaven, except that even marriage is not as wonderful as the relationships we will have then. This is not in any way to suggest that marriage is not an incredible blessing -- it was part of God's plan for man in the ideal setting of Eden before the Fall (Gen. 2:18-25), and it is still a wonderful gift. Nevertheless, it appears in the Bible that marriage is an institution reserved for this world alone, and that heaven will have something even better.
  2. Um, he is lazy. I am not asking him to scrub toilets. When you ask him to pick up his toys, which he does understand very well, he just stares or plays. My 7yo and 5yo when 3 (2 also) where quite capable of picking up their toys. That is NOT an unrealistic expectation. But, yes, did I really write 2? Haha, he is 3!! Doh. Thanks for everyone's ideas and suggestions. Very helpful. I will implement some things and be realistic, too. It is not unrealistic in this home to be orderly and neat.
  3. Because I need some help. I am a generally organized, neat/clean person. BUT, going crazy with what I should do with my 3yo and 5yo ds room. They can not (will not?) keep it clean and organized. See, in my head I picture the extremely neat and organized pottery barn room. I guess I need to get over that.... Do any of you have that? Clean, neat, tidy, organized, clothes kept neatly folded in the drawers? I spend a couple hours picking things up, deep cleaning and organizing all for it to be destroyed within a week. So every 3-4 months or so, I do it all again. Do I make them pick up? Yes, daily. I even help sort of straighten daily as does my husband. I give the 3yo specifics, like put all the cars in the box. The 5yo has his own method of stashing things here and there and sweeping it under here...I tried the, now this toy goes here and this book goes here. Why can't they just take my nice little boxes I have for them, pull one out, play with those toys, pick them up and put them away? It is empty out the toy box (barn) and dump out some books...tie things up, take off the blankets and pillows from the beds, etc. I can't spend time in their room daily having them pick it up and get really frustrated all the time. In the AM, I say, go clean your room. LOL. The 3yo is lazy and unorderly (we are working on it) and the 5yo gets overwhelmed at the mess usually the 3yo makes. What am I missing here? What am I doing wrong? My dd 7 doesn't really keep a tidy room either. Which surprises me. I am going to spend some time organizing, throwing away, etc., and see where I can get with her. BUT THOSE BOYS.... I would appreciate ideas, advice, suggestions. My dh refuses to get rid of the dumb toy box (a barn his gpa made) that is easily emptied by the boys. Usually though that is easy to pick up, since it is throw the toys back in the barn.. I have cleaned out the room, gotten rid of toys, clothes, garbage, etc. Help?
  4. I did medical transcription for a psych hospital for 5 years. Loved it (for a job at home). It was good pay. If you have time in your day where it is quiet and you don't mind typing. I took courses through MTEC.
  5. Thanks Michelle for that suggestion. I will look into it. Does that one cursive book have ALL the states? We are doing MFW Adv. and that would go along nicely with it. :) Another choice...oh boy.
  6. Thank you!!! Do you use it/have used it? Liked it?
  7. Came across this on an old blog. Anyone recognize it? http://ordinarymother.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc_03452.jpg
  8. Can you explain this a little more? Over the top how? If I can jump in here, not meaning to take over original question. :)
  9. :bigear: No advice here, just want to see what others say. My dd6 loves these books!
  10. Then what do you use? OPTGR (did I get that right?) or something else? I am looking at CLE's LTR. Or should I just buck up and stick with 100 EZ and ETC? Just looking for other favorites out there!
  11. Can I ask you personally, how are things with TOG and all the little ones? I have avoided TOG because I felt like I would be too overwhelmed with have a 6yo, 5yo, 3yo, and 1yo. I hardly can find time to think....so I feared I wouldn't have time to lesson plan, etc. You can PM me, etc. Just curious as to how it is working for you! :bigear: Do you like it for your 7yo and 5yo?
  12. Wow! Thanks so much for the help. I think buying a little bit to try out at first sounds like a good plan. Can anyone speak further on how Christianity is brought into this curriculum? Through Christian books, scripture reading, etc? Where does the Christian perspective come in through the curriculum (alongside the parents). Does this even make sense? :glare: Also, do those of you that use TOG already use the library a lot? Or do you buy all the necessary books to go along? Right now I am using MFW and I bought some and use the library for others. Don't mind the library runs but I also love buying books (just don't know if I can afford them all). :)
  13. I am considering TOG for next year and on. But, every time I go to the website I get overwhelmed. I just can't figure it out. I think I need something in my hands to look at. Do they even have a catalog? Even their forums are confusing to me!! :tongue_smilie: Soooo, where do I start? Any advice, etc? It would be for a 3rd grader and 1st grader. I saw that I can download samples and will try to do that, but last time I tried my computer was wacky with that. I still would need to add math, grammar, spelling, etc.? It is just history?
  14. Did you decide to go with elemental science? I am using MFW Adv, too, and looking for something more. If you are using ES, does it work alongside the MFW science or are you doing 2 separate things, or just ES? Thanks!!
  15. I am required to do health here in California. I didn't want to figure it all out on my own so I got Abeka for my 2nd grader. I think so far it is tacky and boring. LOL. I guess I can count teaching healthy eating, etc., as health this year. I just was looking for something to document. When I asked what to use on the forums earlier this year, Abeka was recommended by lots of people.
  16. Off the top of my head, I have to say my dd LOVES Kate Dicamillo books. We have read Because of Winn Dixie, The Tale of Despereaux (so, so much better than the movie, but aren't they always), and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. She likes the Mercy Watson books, too, for her to read. Tiger Rising is next...or Magician's Elephant, can't decide.
  17. You could supplement SM with Math Mammoth. My dd loves math this year using MM.
  18. I have a 2nd grader and K. Looking for a science program for them. I have MFW Adv but am not crazy about it. Didn't really like the MFW 1st science either. Think it is the Usborne books! I do add to the book basket where I can. Anyways, what is recommended? Elemental Science? Apologia? Anyone compare and contrast these and others? Thanks!
  19. Well, I'd say it looks good, but I am a newbie. Since I am using MFW Adv I thought you'd like to see how what I am using compares. Quite similar. History: MFW Adventures Bible: MFW Adventures Grammar: R&S 2nd grade and some PLL Writing: Hmmmm, I thought MFW had some included. Spelling: R&S Sound and Structure 2 Science: MFW Adv. Might add in Apologia Flying Creatures later on. I felt like MFW 1st was not enough, or just not my style. Math: MM addition review and MM 2A Art: Stebbing, I can do all things Music: MFW Adv. Also using Classically Cursive and have Abeka Health since it is required in California. I am planning on reading lots from the book basket and using the deluxe books for extra reading, etc. Seems like enough to me. I will have dd pick out different books to read to me every day for practice, too.
  20. What does your 3yo love to play with or your once 3yo? I am looking for ideas for a boy. :001_smile: Is there any great toy out there that I am unaware of? We are a bit picky here.
