  1. could you use baby oil? All of the recipes I've found call for almond oil. But most say you can substitute olive or even veg. oil. I wonder if you used baby oil? Seems like it would have that "baby" smell!:tongue_smilie: Thanks!
  2. Lots of great ideas! I'll have to go back thru the thread and read thru them more closely. It's too late to knit anything, I'm too slow! They've done those tied fleece blankets to death over the past years. My boys each have THREE a piece on their beds now! I really love those tiered dishes and the bird feeders. One problem is I have to make 10 gifts, so I have to watch my cost for supplies. Also the difference in ladies, there's single early 20s up thru married 40s-50s, to my widowed MIL in her 70s. Maybe I can mix up the gifts and do different ones. The problem with the food in a jar is so many of them are diet and exercise nuts, they are soooo particular about what they eat. One sil lives off protein bars and goes to a weight dr 2x week and she only weighs 130 lbs! Maybe I'll do the body scrubs. That's something I could do for everyone. Last year when I did the dishcloths, I actually made scrubs for the single girls to go with their rags like they were wash cloths. They said they enjoyed the scrubs. Thanks for all the great ideas. Going back to read thru!
  3. My sils just annouced for Christmas all the ladies will do an exchange of handmade only gifts. I'm at a loss. Last year I knitted each some dishclothes, but there's no time for that now! Anyone have suggestions for something homemade you would want to get? Thanks! Kim
  4. I've always wondered this, too. Do they give them the payment book as well?
  5. So after FIL & MIL rsvp'd yes to SIL's party, MIL planned her own on the same day, inviting some of the same guests, right? Did MIL invite SIL to her party? I can't even imagine! I was wondering if MIL contacted SIL and changed her rsvp to SIL's party? Either she's got a manipulative streak a mile wide or she's suffering from some ailment.
  6. I need to lose weight. A lot of weight. I'm stuck in the same eating rut and its not exactly healthy. So, what are your tastiest suggestions for breakfast, lunch, and snacks? Supper will still have to be cooked for the family, so I'll just try to make healthier choices and eat little portions. But, I can really shake up my eating throughout the day. So, ladies, what's tasty and good for you? Thanks, Kim:lurk5: (I can't even have the popcorn, can I?)
  7. :iagree:Yeah, there was a character on some show, maybe that one Lorenzo Lamas was in, uhhhhh, can't think of it. Falcon Crest?
  8. We're using EG right now, so you've gotten my curiousity up. How does MCT teach prepositions? Thanks, Kim:bigear:
  9. Which are you're favorites? I'm trying to teach two boys, 12 & 14, who prefer pencils for projectiles and having teeth extracted to writing a sentence, much less a paragraph! :lurk5:
  10. What about Elijah? I've always loved that and it would fit with your other children. Congratulations!
  11. Well, I TRIED to do the Core Synergistics disc this morning. It was TOUGH. He does a LOT of push-ups, which is something I just can't do. I have to do the ones on my knees and with the twists and turns he adds, it just doesn't work on your knees. I'm going to give another disc a try tomorrow and see how it goes, but it sure ain't Denise Austin or Kathy Smith! Heck, it ain't even Taebo! I even have a couple of tapes from the Slim in 6 program. They're good, but not as hard as P90X. But, they're about 45-60 min each as well. I suppose if you do ANY exercise for an hour, 6 days a week and eat like a rabbit, you're bound to lose weight!
  12. Thanks, good point! Right now the rule is if you're in the room when I'm trying to exercise "Have the phone and know how to dial 911".
  13. Well I might consider it if I had 7 kids, hsed them, worked a full time job, AND lost all that weight! I'd probably just wear it all the time.
  14. I cringed at the one hour per day, too. Then I thought about her hsing 7 and working a full time job. Makes me feel pretty bad! Then tonight I watched the infomercial. I guess I could of exercised instead of watching other people.:glare: Another thing is I would have to do it in our living room and I don't want anyone watching me. But, someone is always here. Guess I could get up extra early and do it while everyone sleeps since I'll get all that new energy. I just really need to do something. I'm overweight, have high BP, and don't come from very healthy stock. My sister died from a heart attack at 43 and I'm now 44.
  15. :iagree: A friend gave me the set of dvds, but of course, they're just collecting dust. I thought I was too out of shape to even attempt the level of P90X. I didn't want to drop dead mid-workout! After seeing her story, maybe I'll dust them off. I'm pretty much exactly where she started. My friend didn't give me any "plan" or "nutrition guide" that she kept referring to. I wonder what those are and if you can get them somewhere? It would certainly be helpful to have it all laid out what to do and what to eat. Perhaps in the morning........
  16. The impression I have gotten from reading reviews here is that its just as hard to change in the middle with algebra programs. Going from say Saxon to CD, or MUS to TT, since some aren't as rigorous or just follow their own unique sequence. I had just gotten the idea that even the algebra programs' scope and sequences were vastly different. I have a son doing CD prealgebra now, but I'm not sure if we can stick it out with CD all the way through. He's not "mathy" (don't tell PaintedLady I used that word ). I'm debating on starting Algebra I with MUS or Saxon or a million others I think of and sticking it out. I'm just so afraid of picking the wrong program and then the "change" would be just like in elementary, this not covered, that not covered, etc.
  17. There not being a level 2 is what scares me about Jacob's. Too much math program jumping in the early years has me paranoid about trying to go into another program. They just all cover things at such different paces. Good luck with your decision!
  18. Where do you go after Jacob's? There's not a level 2, right? Thanks, Kim
  19. Thanks, Jean! This came at a good time for me. Off to read, Kim
  20. I have two boys, 12 & 14. I wanted something with a Bible verse. Something maybe to do with knights, soldiers, warriors. I had a few verses jotted down, but of course, now I can only find one. Its 1 Tim 4:12 "...be an example in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity." Any ideas? Thanks, Kim
