  1. Thank you, Melissa, I didn't realize that. I wish I could hold it in my hand. You can only see so much thru a sample online. I really like the commentary in Omnibus, though I don't think I'm reformed :tongue_smilie:(that's a whole 'nother thread!). I wonder if it would be ridiculous to get it just for that. What else could I use with DAW to add in more Christian worldview? I have been looking at the products from Brimwood Press as a gentle beginning to CWV, so maybe that would work. Anyone else?
  2. Thank you for the suggestion. I don't think its silly at all. I actually have looked at TQ, but I would love something more laid out on a daily basis. I'll certainly keep it in mind and give it another look though. Its fairly cost effective as well, isn't it? Thanks!
  3. I have rising 9th and 7th graders. Both boys, both school-phobic. This is what I would love to have, but cannot find: -Chronological study of history (we'll be in Ancients) that ties in literature, art/aritists, architecture, music, composers, basically everything. -Would like to keep them together, beefing up or paring down as needed. -Christian worldview. I have MOH I and actually want to use SOTW alongside for fun and projects, etc. I thought about getting Omnibus I to bring in Christian worldview, lit, but I'm not sure. I would probably just use it for commentary, maybe I can also get a trail for art, architecture? What all would Omnibus bring to the table for me? Trisms DAW? I believe the work would be doable for both. But, no Christian worldview. Is there a product that would bring that in effortlessly? Seems like this would be the easiest route, to add in the worldview as it has everything else. But, I don't know what to add it with. Do you use a spine with DAW or is it all research from various sources? MFW-just too hard for younger ds. I also don't believe it covers artists, composers, etc, or does it? TOG-just too much for me. We'll be doing Apologia Physical science and So You Really Want to Learn Spanish together, and still need work on spelling. Then there's lit analysis. I know there's a way to do this, but I have myself so confused I don't know what to do. Christian worldview and Bible study for them are extremely important to me. Any insights will be very much appreciated. Thanks, Kim
  4. My dh and boys ride dirtbikes a lot in the summer. He packs wet washcloths in a ziploc bag with some water and keeps them in the cooler. They find them very refreshing! Just wiping their faces, hands, and arms down with them, rewetting and hanging around the neck for a bit.
  5. I'm curious as to how MFW "does" history. I've looked at the books used and the sample schedule, but was hoping for some more info. Does it follow a structure as far as mapping, timeline, writings? Thanks! Kim
  6. What does a week at your home look like? Mapwork, timeline. What about other things? Summaries? Narrations? Outlines? Writing projects? I'm thinking of using maybe MOH, but I also like the look of Trisms, in that they end up with a "course-book". Perhaps I could make up the research questionnaires like Trisms? I need a framework for planning what types of things should get done each week with each topic. Thanks! Kim
  7. I'm just looking for input on these. I speak no Spanish. My boys don't really want a computer program, so I've narrowed it down to these. I haven't seen many reviews against SYRWTLS, but I don't really care for the illustrations in them. I came across BtB, but there seems to be a good bit of bad reviews. Just fishing for input. Thanks, Kim
  8. I'm glad I'm not the only. I was thinking maybe I was been a bit prudish. Off to research Spanish for high school, AGAIN!
  9. Is it just me? I was looking thru sample chapters of levels 1 and 2 and while I don't know what the words on the pages say, the drawings just look trashy to me.:001_huh: I was getting ready to order, but now I just don't know. I don't want it if the whole book if filled with busty women in skimpy clothes with guys licking their lips at them. What say the hive?
  10. So You Really Want to Learn Spanish from Galore Park. The sample chapter from Level 2 had a busty girl with three guys behind her licking their lips and the sample from level 1 had a busty girl in a strapless dress talking with a guy and both looked like they were holding beers. IDK, I just don't think it would be something I would need to use with two teenage boys if the books are filled with those kinds of drawings.

  12. Thank you! I had no idea abouth the differences in Spanish! I actually don't know if I want to even teach Spanish. I don't want it to be like all the rest of us that took Spanish in HS and now can't remember any of it. I was hoping with SYRWTLS that they would actually learn enough Spanish to be able to briefly converse, if needed, with people here in the US. We did Getting Started with Latin this year. Perhaps we should earn our foreign language credits for HS by continuing with Latin. UGH, decisions, decisions. Thanks again, very helpful! Kim
  13. Very helpful, ladies! Thanks for the replies. I had no idea about the differences in Spanish. I didn't want to teach them something useless. 14. Also, I've seen the package for sale in different places with one cd and then with two. How many cds should there be for level 1? In reading reviews I saw that SYRWTLS teaches Castilian Spanish, not true Spanish. What does this mean? Is the difference that great? Thanks! Kim (Trying here, no response on HS board yet)

  16. :iagree: I like the sound of this name better, but what's going on? Is something being planned? Thanks!
  17. I wasn't suggesting anyone was lying, just questioning if it was really him. I haven't seen any news coverage this morning, only read the web page when I logged on. From the story I read, it was just he was killed and quickly buried at sea. It didn't mention the DNA testing spoken of last night, so I didn't realize there actually was DNA and other verification. I just seemed the story had changed significantly from when I went to bed. I was hoping there was definite identification, that's all.
  18. Well, that's very true. I hate that I've become so jaded. UGH! I also hate that I'm hoping another human is really dead.
  19. I didn't really think about what they would do with his body, I just found some comfort, I guess you would say, in the DNA testing. Are they sure it was him? Without being too graphic, was the body 100% identifiable? I think I've just become a bit too skeptical in my old age.
  20. I went to bed last night after hearing he was killed a week ago and the news was just released after DNA verification. I felt confident it was indeed him. I woke up this morning to hearing he was killed yesterday and buried at sea within the day. Do you think he's really dead? Makes me shudder to think of some bad movie or soap opera where the villian turns up again. Does the burial at sea make anyone else shudder? I do want to say thank you to all the men, women, and children who sacrifice so unselfishly to protect our country. I don't think I'm that selfless, so I'm very glad and thankful there are those that are!
  21. There's a conference May 5-7 near the airport: http://www.ghea.org/conference/ They have a HUGE used book sale on Friday. That's the reason I like it. The only other one is the one mentioned by a pp at the end of July at the Galleria. If you go to homeschoolclassifieds.com, they have lots of groups and co-ops listed by area. I don't know anything about Newnan. HTH, Kim
