  1. Okay, so I know you're helping me with a specific science plan, but whenever you have some spare time I would love a general GOALS list for highschool to tuck away for future use.
  2. Thanks. Our dance studio has lots of homeschoolers, so I'll probably be passing this info along to them as well.
  3. Have you used the anatomy books? If so, what grade level would you say they were at? Thanks ; )
  4. Thanks to you both. I'm not in a big rush, so no worries. If I don't hear anything in a couple of weeks I'll be sure to PM. Hope you enjoy the time with your parents.
  5. Lewelma, I've seen that you've helped several people come up with plans for science, would you please help me also? I've got a 14 yr. old dd that's in the 9th grade. She is a ballet dancer and the only things she's talked about doing in the future are dance and massage therapy. My husband and I want to encourage her in her dance as much as possible and that includes curricula choices. While I love learning science with my daughter I don't feel that I know enough to teach it to her on my own. This year we started out trying to use Science Shepherd Biology and she was having a really hard time with it. I've realized that the reason for that was a lack of understanding in how to read nonfiction. We've worked on that and she now takes notes while she reads and her comprehension has improved drastically. We set Shepherd Science aside and I asked her what she would like to learn about. Her response was "I've always wanted to learn about genetics." I was able to find an online co op to facilitate the BJU Biology section on genetics. She is continuing with the co op and they are now going over the sections of the BJU book on the human body. Next year I would like for her to study anatomy more in depth. She's really enjoying what she's learning so far and I feel that anatomy would be beneficial regardless of what she decides to do in the future. I was able to purchase the Great Courses Intro to Human Anatomy and found a book called Dance Anatomy by Jacqui Haas. Do you think that this will be sufficient for the 10th grade? Overkill? Any other ideas for highschool science for her? I thought maybe nutrition or herbology? A big concern for me is evaluation. How do I approach that one? Thanks so much!!! ETA Dd also enjoys any type of art and is especially good at drawing if that helps at all.
  6. AimeeM, have you seen the fairly recent physics unit that Ellen McHenry added to her free downloads section?
  7. This is my dd14 does dance 4 days a week. Now that she's older she tries to control herself, but it's still really hard for her not to instigate if she's bored. When she was little I was sure to have a job that she could help with.
  8. OPGTR along with Bob Books. Worked with all four. #4 got half way through OPGTR and started reading anything he could get his hands on. Oh, forgot that we also used some school zone flashcards to teach the individual letters and their sounds.
  9. When the kiddos get older her Cells curriculum is excellent as well.
  10. I've got two boys in one room and two girls and a baby girl in another room. My philosophy is that ,more likely than not, each of these kids when they get out on their own will need to learn to share their space. I mean really, how many people have never had to live with a roommate or eventually a spouse. I think it's good practice.
  11. I had actually run across this one and wasn't sure about it since I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy.
  12. Hello all, I have a 14 yr old dd who is only interested in dance. Anyone have ideas for getting her through the sciences? I've found this book http://www.amazon.com/Dance-Anatomy-Sports-Jacqui-Haas/dp/0736081933 and would like to do something about nurition and dance...(resources???) but don't know what else to do with her. Thanks so very much! Debbie
  13. Can anyone recommend to me a place to purchase Chinese handwriting books? Dd and I are learning Chinese using Tuttle flashcards and practicing with native speakers that we know, but I'd like for us to begin learning to write the characters that we've mastered. Thanks so much!!! :bigear:
  14. I use a file folder with library book style pockets inside. http://www.joggles.com/store/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=14733&osCsid=d69fc4e3a36168aac5fb6ea60a0492c8 Each pocket has a card that slips into it with the subject name or chore written on one end and the word "done" on the other end. The cards get flipped as the tasks get finished. It's not exactly like a workbox, but it does help everyone keep up with what they have done/still need to do.
  15. :iagree:I've not seen the program by the American Association of Chemistry, but other than that I second what was said by the pp.
  16. Does anyone know if ro-tel tomatoes have msg in them? Thanks so much!
