Annenberg videos are grossly underused. These were very pricey videos not too long ago. Most of them are still very current.

Carnegie Mellon OLI- a mix of full-fledged courses. We've liked the ones we've used. Similar set up to Edx- https://oli.cmu.edu/...e-open-courses/

In search of:  writing programs and resources for younger, middles, and older students.  It might be set up like a traditional curriculum, be a series of youtube videos, free e-books, a web site with tutorials, etc.

So, if you have a friend who is broke and needs help teaching a child to write, where might she go for help?

Note: I have NEVER used these. I cannot speak to the quality.

Glencoe Grammar Handbook: http://www.glencoe.c...28182960_02.pdf

Grammar Practice Workbooks are about halfway down the page here: http://www.glencoe.c.../workbooks.html

For example, Grammar Practice Workbook Grade 9: http://www.glencoe.c...s/gpw/9gpw2.pdf

There are answer keys to these available if you search "Grammar Practice Workbook Teacher". There is only a one number difference in the web address from student editions. There doesn't seem to be answer keys online for any of the other workbooks.

For example: Grammar Practice Workbook Teacher Grade 9: http://www.glencoe.c...w_blm/9gpw1.pdf

We are using these in the same manner as Memoria Press' English Grammar Recitation. I put the definition of the part of speech into Quizlet flash cards for dd and then we work through the sheets.

These inexpensive handbooks correspond well, are handy references and have additional examples and exercises.  https://www.amazon.c...sition handbook

I find that there are many more teacher editions available for the "odd" years. Must be most schools purchase 7, 9, and 11. Of course, I discovered this after I bought grade 10 for next year.

You're very welcome :)

What's cool to me is that, even though I'm currently in a position where I don't need free curriculum, there are resources here that I prefer to paid stuff.  So, as I plan for next year - especially for the soon-to-be high schooler (gulp) - I find myself shopping this list first :)

Today's requests:

Our geography section could use some beefing up.  Bonus points for structured programs or stuff that's just dirt easy to implement.

It'd also be nice to have links to some high quality tutorials for life skills areas like: car maintenance and repair, cooking, nutrition, sewing, home repair, cleaning, budgeting, etc.   That's not an exhaustive list, but you get the gist.

Last but not least, I think it would be great to have a pre-K section for our younger friends.

Operation World Prayer Calendar (Printable version)
http://www.operation...d.org/print/674
The shorter 60 day schedule
http://www.operation...d.org/print/673
There is a printable version of each country page

This isn't as printer friendly for low income as I would like, but...when my boys were young, we learned a LOT of geography just reading and praying each morning. And the things listed for each country are the kinds of things that will not be listed in typical books. When I read what was listed for my birth country, I was amazed at what was listed. Someone really had talked for a LONG time to a local minister and LISTENED to things that don't make immediate sense to an American.

Voice of the Martyrs
https://www.persecution.com
I'm hesitant to list this, because I personally think some lives are unnecessarily lost in this type of activity, but...it is not my place, here, to sensor resources. Subscription to the magazine is free. It teaches geography and teaches it well.

The Five Themes of Geography have been replaced in public schools by a "better" model that is more complicated, but there are still, resources for it, because....well...it just works. Googling "Five Themes Geography PDF" and a keyword like "literature" should bring up some results like those below.

Literature
