Looking for some neat ideas to give my hubby when he asks "what do you want for Mother's day?"...I don't really love to garden, but we have one...I like the idea of having fresh veggies from the garden and pretty flowers to look at....so I am looking for tools (not overly expensive ones) that will help making gardening easier and maybe more enjoyable for me.

what do you suggest??

Err, well the ones I use most are a hand trowel and a full size spade and fork. The Spade and fork I like are quite small and light and great for my strength and build. Secateurs are useful too. I don't think they have to be a fancy brand. I prefer tools that aren't wood because wood gets rough after a few years and causes blisters on your hands if you don't wear gloves. The spade and fork I have are probably as old as I am and all metal with a grip. The trowel is metal with a plastic grip.

A rolling stool with a cubby to store stuff. You can sit on it and roll along the beds to weed without straining your back, and keep your gardening gloves and such in it. Oh, and rubberized garden gloves. My gardening life has been so much easier since I got them.

how is this better than a regular hoe? Does it do something different or handle better or something??

This is also called a hula hoe. It is a weeding hoe. The blade goes beneath the soil and cuts the weeds without disrupting the top layer of soil. One could use it to cultivate too.
