Sahamamama
Do you have a virus scanner? Yes, my husband ran it. He thought he'd fixed the problem? It's been happening all week, but he was away for work and only got in last night. Yes, we have restarted the computer. The pop-up is actually worse now (more frequent). elegantlion
I read this and thought you were having your home windows redone. Sorry about the computer issue.
AK_Mom4
What does the "Windows Installer" message say?
Sahamamama
What does the "Windows Installer" message say? It's just a small box that repeatedly pops up for a nanosecond. Not enough time to grab it or open it or read it. I'm going to have a seizure if this keeps up.
LMA
You have more of a malware problem than a classic virus that can be fixed by a virus scan. Google 'windows installer virus or malware' and you will see it is not easy to remove. People run software and check logs to see which files they can carefully remove to get rid of it. unsinkable
(Ignore this post... I keep picturing a human window installer whose head pops up in the window from outside of the house...) OMGosh, now I read the rest of the posts and see I am late to the party...sorry!

I agree it sounds more like malware/hijacker than simple virus. My son has been paid to remove these for people, and he came home venting about what he had to do to get rid of it. I also agree, use a clean computer to internet search how to get rid of it and follow those steps.
Lanny
We suggest that you download and install one of the versions (Freeware/Pro/Ultimate) of Advanced SystemCare 6. We used the Freeware version for quite awhile and then my wife installed the Ultimate version (Shareware) on her Windows XP box. It got rid of some problems that she was unable to cure, with other software. She liked it so much, that 2 or 3 weeks ago, we paid for a license for the Ultimate version (it is Shareware, so you can install it, and try it, free, for 30 days). The license, which includes up to 3 Windows boxes, is just under USD$20 for one year, if you click on their discount web page. This morning, my wife ran the Suite of Advanced SystemCare 6 utilities on her box. As I recall, it found eleven (11) Malware things and removed them...... It seems to be very stable software, on both Windows XP boxes that we are running it on. GL
Um_2_4
Try this: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=main;pop I had the same issue a while ago and now run this software along with avast anti-virus on everything and no problems so far.
