Michelle My Bell
I have been to 3 stores and all the toys that are there are not interesting to me at all. He is at a weird age... a little too old for the preschool type toys and a little too young for some of the really complicated building toys. Any suggestions? I am open to making toys as well if you know of any tutorials.
happi duck
I've always thought Wedgits looked neat for younger kids. (We never had them be cause my kids were too old when we first saw them.) http://www.wedgits.com/
MomatHWTK
My 7 y.o. really loves the magnet sets that have pattern block style shapes. He received this one as a gift last year and still plays with it. I just purchased these to supplement his set, but I don't think they look as nice as the Imginets ones. The new set looks more like the old refrigerator magnet letter sets but I doubt DS will care(The 160 piece set is actually 2 80 piece packages which is weird for Christmas wrapping purposes.) Melissa and Doug makes a wooden set that is nice. A Zoob building set might be fun.
Lily_Grace
Automoblox Minis. They're like slightly larger wooden&plastic Matchbox cars, but they come apart and can be mixed and matched. Wooden stilts A catapult or build your own marshmallow shooter A marble run A plasmacar (I got one of these for my then-1yo and my 13yo plays with it more!) Zuzu822
For toys, my six year old is getting: Space and Airport Legos: Marbleworks Hexbugs Squishy T. Rex Troy Extra Muros Lego City Game More Snap Circuits If you don't have Magnatiles, I would also really recommend those. We have four sets of varying size and color, and all my boys love them! KristenR
My daughters received the Melissa and Doug castle last year for Christmas. Here is the less-girly version. It by far gets the most play out of ALL their toys. We also purchased a whole bunch the Papo, Safari and Schleich brand figurines because they fit pretty well in it. We're really big on Papo, Safari and Schleich figurines and have a TON of dinosaurs, animals, horses, and people like this one. The figures are a bit expensive put my girls each get one or two for just about every holiday. Over the years we have built up a nice collection. This year my girls are getting the Melissa and Doug Stable. They also make a neat Pirate Ship. These toys are wooden and built to last. My 2,4, and 6 year old use theirs daily for hours at a time and it has held up perfectly.

That's a toy that gets played with by all ages and will last forever. We had some friends with littles over (3 yo and 18 mos) and they loved putting all the Schleich in our Melissa and Doug Castle. DD played with them too so that's a pretty wide range of interests that had hours of fun.
