Jann in TX Posted March 4, 2009 Share Posted March 4, 2009 About an hour ago I re-injured my already 'bad' back while attempting to put in a load of laundry. Brief history: 1 blown disk and several others starting to herniate (lower back). Surgery was recommended last fall--but put off because rest and 'doing nothing' helped. All was 'fine' until 2 weeks ago when I bent down to pick up a piece of trash (I did bend my knees)--I've had burning and pain shooting down my hips and legs since--not bad but annoying. Right now I feel BAD! I have a call in to my Dr... not sure what will happen. I do not respond to pain medication (morphine, codine, vicoden and any other related drug is not recognized by my body--morphine makes me sick--but it does not relieve my pain... I get the most relief with ibruprophen (I've taken 3 so far and I'm considering a 4th). My computer chair offers the best support--but sitting makes the numbness/electric-shock in my legs worse... I can't get comfortable on my bed...WAAAAAAAA Oldest dd is taking care of my afternoon errands and is picking her sister up from school... not sure what they will scrounge for dinner--I know I won't be cooking! Take 800 mg of motrin (ibuprofen) but have something in your stomach before taking (can be irritating) and use ice for 20 minutes on/off. Ask your provider for a muscle relaxant....like flexaril. Also, ultram is in another classof drugs (non-narcotic), which is worth a try. You could also see if your provider has toradol (injectable) which is a heavy-duty motrin.
