Becca
I'm looking for something for next fall for ds11 and dd8. Thanks
Chris in VA
Do you mean World History covered completely in 1 year?
SnowWhite
WinterPromise Adventures in the Sea and Sky would fit that bill. You might want to add the Younger Learner's Guide, depending on the 8yo's abilities.
abbeyej
A Child's History of the World (Hillyer) or A Little History of the World (Gombrich) would both make good spines for that. Sonlight has two 1-year world history cores, but both would need to be adapted a bit, since one would be a little young for your kids, and the other a little old. Julie in MN
My Father's World is meant to combine 2nd through 8th grade. It uses Story of the World volumes 2-4 (as well as a variety of other materials).
Becca
Yes, I mean an overview of world history (ie from creation to columbus maybe) that can be completed in one year.
Becca
And added to that, I know MFW and SOTW takes 2 years to do that, but I am looking for something a little less in depth that we can complete in 1 school year.
Grace
I used Hillyers Child's History of the World with the Calvert Outline Workbook. I added some writing assignments for my 11 year old from IEW. I added mapwork for both from SOTW activity books and let 8 year old do color pages and review cards from SOTW. I already owned SOTW and IEW so it was easy. angela&4boys
HOD's Preparing Hearts... http://www.heartofdakota.com/preparing-hearts.php
Pat in MI
Yep, I was going to suggest Preparing Hearts from HOD also. Good luck in your search. Blessings, Pat
Donna A.
I agree... HOD's "Preparing" would be a great option for what you're looking for.
AngieW in Texas
Sonlight Core 6 covers up to the 1500's in one year. I think it would be a great fit for an 11yo and 8yo. You would need lower level readers for the 8yo, but the history and readalouds would be good for both. My kids were actually 11yo and 8yo when we did Core 7. Julie in MN
And added to that, I know MFW and SOTW takes 2 years to do that, but I am looking for something a little less in depth that we can complete in 1 school year. Lessons From History can be done quickly. It is a series of spiral books. Each goes thru a period of history by spending a couple of pages on major people & events, with space for you to fill in between. The pages on a person will include a short history, so you don't need to go to outside sources, but lots of ideas for adding if you do have time. WTMindy
Brimwood Press could be used for that age. http://www.brimwoodpress.com/ My kids really enjoyed it. We did a speed version in a summer, but it is meant to take longer than that.
Becca
Thanks all - I'm checking out Preparing Hearts. It looks promising!
Johanna
Yes, I mean an overview of world history (ie from creation to columbus maybe) that can be completed in one year. You might want to look at Heart of Dakota's "preparing" book. It uses CHOW and gives an overview of world history! http://heartofdakota.com/preparing-hearts.php
ChicoryChick
HOD's Preparing Hearts... http://www.heartofdakota.com/preparing-hearts.php I was going to suggest this too!
