    Homeschooling Mom to ds10, dd7 and dd5
  1. We have been once in November and twice in Feb (avoiding any holidays, of course). All 3 times the weather has been perfect and the crowds not too crazy.
  2. I've never heard of anyone else reading like this - but my dd8 will be reading anywhere from 7-10 books at a time. I know that in itself is not unusual, but she will have a big stack of books. She will read one chapter from one book and then move it to the bottom of the pile, read a chapter from the next book and then move it to the bottom of the pile, and then keep rotating through the books in this way. When she finishes a book she will get a new book (she has another stack of books that she is going to read next) and just add it into the rotatioon of the other pile. And there is big trouble if anyone messes with either one of her stacks! LOL She has been doing this ever since she started reading chapter books. I really don't know how she can keep them all straight, but she says she can and doesn't have any problem telling me what the books are about. Is this a certain learning style you think? Or a personality thing? or ???
  3. I excercise 5 Xs a week, averaging about 40 minutes each time. Some days I'll only get in about 15-20 minutes of weights, but other days I'll spent over an hour doing everything! That doesn't include walks, unless part of my walk is a run.
  4. I would like to start a thread of review for Meaningful Composition. It has been mentioned within other threads a few times lately, but I would love to hear more about it from those who have used it. What do you think? and what can you tell us about it? Some specific questions. I would be purchasing Level 4 (suggested to be used for Grades 3-5) for my ds11. Could I also use it for my 8yo who has not had any official writing instruction before, but who has had some grammar? ( Edited to add: I checked the website and I made a mistake - it's actually called Book 4, not Level 4) I notice that it also includes grammar? Is it enough you think to use for 5th Grade? Ds has a solid grammar base, so I don't mind going light on that for a year, it's just his writing that needs some work. Thanks for any info! Becca
  5. thank you everyone! I'm looking forward to exploring our options!
  6. We have 3 kids between the ages of 5 and 10 and we will be stopping over in Cincinnatti (did I spell that right? LOL) on the way there and back. Any recommendations of kid-friendly stuff we can do. We don't have time for the Creation Museum and we have already been to the Aquarium. Any other recommendations? What about anything to do with the underground railroad? Thanks! :confused1: My ds wanted me to put that in!
  7. I'm looking into Elementary Physical Science by Classic Science. I don't know anything else about it though except for what is on the Website. http://www.eequalsmcq.com/index.htm
  8. I'm specifically interested in "Elementary Physical Science" but reviews of any of his science programs would be helpful. How old were your children when you used it. And does anyone know how much it costs? I couldn't find a price on their website. I saw that "elementary Earth Science" was free, but what about the others? Thanks
  9. And the new math look is good too! LOL
  10. Thanks for all the info Shannon. And thanks too for the link Michelle.
  11. Hi Shannon. Thanks for the info. I have been trying to find info on it on-line and have found very little. Does it even still exist? I couldn't even find where on Calvert's website to order it. What are the suggested ages for the first guide? Rebecca
