My kids each pick a picture book for bedtime read alouds each night, and I often pick one too. :D They like that they get four stories that way. Favorites over the years: Mike Mulligan and the other Virginia Lee Burton books James Herriot's Treasury for Children Where the Wild Things Are Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm The Clown of God and all of the Strega Nona books by Tomi dePaola On Market Street by Arnold and Anita Lobel Corduroy by Don Freeman Miss Rumphius Chris Van Alsberg's books- Zathura is one of ds4's favs Gerald McDermott's books- another fav of my 4 year old Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs The original Curious George stories The Madeleine stories Books by Elsa Beskow- beautiful illustrations Any Lois Ehlert books- Snowballs and Feathers for Lunch are the most requested here A Very Special House by Ruth krauss Kitten's First Full Moon Harold and the Purple Crayon (yet another fav of 4 yr old) Stellaluna The Very Hungry Caterpillar Horton Hatches the Egg Harry the Dirty Dog Olivia Make Way for Ducklings Imogene's Antlers Jan Brett's books are nice too I am forgetting a bunch of great ones! (garbage truck with an attitude), Jesse Bear stories, The Gingerbread Man (retold by James Aylesworth), Max & Ruby (and other Rosemary Wells books), books by Eric Carle, another recommendation for Kitten's First Full Moon, the Hairy MacLary series by Lynley Dodd.
