gardenmom5
Dudeling turned 18 today. He got a jury summons. This kid hasn't been able to handle school and I'm looking into special needs GED programs for him!
Kassia
Can you contact the court and tell them the circumstances? We've had to do that when our kids have been away at school and they've been very accommodating. I know this is different, though.
dsmith
I've found them very accommodating in our state. I would be able to get my son out of jury duty easily if he were summoned. I was able to get an exemption for jury duty while I was homeschooling ds because of his special needs and being the primary caretaker and educator. I'd give them a call and see what they say.
Ali in OR
Yeah, it was fun to fill in the reasons why my oldest couldn't serve jury duty--"non verbal, blind, low IQ, etc, etc." She got excused and hasn't been summoned again.

gardenmom5
Getting more information. It *arrived* *before* his birthday - when he was STILL 17!

Does he has a drivers ID already? I heard that the DMV driver ID database is where they tend to draw jury summons from.

He had to have something so he can get on an airplane.
QueenCat
My ds has autism. The court, in two states, just required a letter from his doctor saying he isn't capable of serving as a juror. It was easy, no issues. I will say that in TN, I called first. They said it had to be official and not a parent.
