Porridge
We were cooking for a homeless ministry and I splashed a large quantity of bacon grease onto my jacket. I've washed it twice and it still has a lingering smell of bacon. I don't want to wear it out and attract every dog in the neighborhood. Also, ironically, I am vegan. Haha!! Seriously - how do I get the smell out?
Laura Corin
Back in the day when I went to smoke-filled bars, I found that hanging jackets up outside in the breeze helped. Worth a try?
Eos
Boiling water and dish detergent together, scrubbed hard, works for me for smelly, greasy spots. This won't work if you've already run it through the dryer.
Tenaj
Vinegar and/or baking soda if it's really just a smell. I just throw a half of a cup or so of each into the washer and then wash as normal. Dawn dishwashing detergent rubbed in the area of the grease if there might still be grease hanging on there and then wash on the hottest water cycle you dare without risking the jacket.
Katy
I’d try Dawn & hot water.
wintermom
Wait. You want to remove that glorious smell of bacon? Jim Gaffigan would be disappointed. 😅 1
HazelAnne
I agree with trying vinegar. Also, maybe Felsnaptha.
Selkie
No suggestions, but you have my sympathies. I would have to give the jacket away to someone who could stand the smell.
*****
Using dishwasher detergent on grease on clothing has helped to get the grease out of garments here. Rub on the spot well and wash as usual, if your garment can be thrown in the washing machine. Hopefully that will take care of the smell. I wouldn't put it in the dryer until the grease is out all the way. Maybe you will have to launder it a few times? Just an idea. Hope something works for you.

Will try it if the vinegar, airing, and other remedies don’t work!
