Saliva Covid Tests?

Anyone know anything about them?

My dc’s university is using them for all off campus students and for random testing through the semester. They say they will send them to Rutgers and have results in about two days.

I didn’t even know they were a thing and I’m wondering how accurate they are. My dc are scheduled for the first one next week.

I am happy to hear that they are being utilized rather than just a theoretical possibility!

Both my DS's are taking them this week to be able to attend Purdue in person starting on the 24th. AFAIK they are requiring it of all in person students, on or off campus.

IU is making on campus students do the nasal swab. So, I’m thinking the saliva ones aren’t as reliable but good enough.

I haven't seen anything on them in awhile, but I remember linking to a preliminary study about them quite awhile ago. I believe the thought at the time was that they show infection at lower levels than the PCR tests and thus perhaps were more effective earlier.
