Momof3Maidens
I have hard wood floors and have used Murphy's Oil Soap to clean them with up until this point but now we have a new little addition to our family ( a Yorkie pup) and would like to be able to disinfect my floors but not sure how. Murphy's Oil Soap doesn't disinfect, does it? Any suggestions?
Chris in VA
I take it your floors are sealed? While I'd hesitate, you could use a steamer--no cleaning solution to buy, immediately dries, and it disinfects. Until someone walks on it, of course! :D You can use vinegar and water with a mop if you wring out the mop very, very well. I don't really worry about disinfecting my floors because they get germs almost immediately. For those accidents that invariably come with an animal, I just use regular Mr. Clean or vinegar. Spy Car
I've been warned not to use Murphy's Oil soap on polyurethaned floors as it supposedly dissolves the finish (over time). Cleaners like Bona work really well (but are not "disinfectants"). Bill
Blessedfamily
I'd like something non toxic to clean my wood floors. I was going to ask about Murphy's but if it ruins the finish, I'll keep looking.
Camy-7 boybarians 1 lady
What about good ole vinegar diluted in water? Blessings.
keptwoman
When we had hardwood floors we used Methylated Spirits which I believe you call Denatured Alcohol. About 1/2 a cup in about 1/2 a bucket of hot hot water. It works really well to clean them. Not sure about the disinfectant properties because to be honest I think homes cleaned of germs are less healthy than those not disinfected. You won't see any disinfectant products in my home. However, given the main ingredients are super hot water and alcohol I'm guessing it does a pretty good bug killing job.
Parrothead
When we lived in the cabin last year we had unsealed hardwood floors. I just but a bit of bleach in the water of the hard floor cleaning machine.
Holly IN
I do not disinfect at all. I do have a cat. We did have chickens but we have never disinfected our hardwood. I just use my homemade solutions of vinegar and water. Holly

The brand is Method. Holly

Momof3Maidens
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, sounds like vinegar and water will do the trick. And yes, come to think of it my floors have seemed to dull over some time. I think I'll discontinue using the Murphy's Oil Soap, thanks for the input on that one. Blessings to each of you! JFSinIL
Our Labrador keeps them clean for us. :glare: Which means, too, that I do not dare use anything remotely toxic to clean the floors.
MyBlueLobsters
We have a Shark Steam Mop. I LOVE it! The hot steam kills any germs (again until someone walks across it :) ) and it cleans it with no cleaners, so there is no sticky residue
