MeaganS
Dd6 will be finishing up Miquon in a few months. She is also almost done with 3A in BA. I'd say she's bright, but not gifted in math. I plan on having BA be her primary math program, but have been fretting on what to along side it. She picks up math quickly and easily and I've never had to drill her in facts, she just figures them out or remembers them. So would you say it is necessary for her to have another math program? I'm considering MM, the Key To books, or just having her play prodigy and do some math apps occasionally. What did you do? I'm pretty open to ideas. Also, I'm pretty sure this is my first post over here! So hi! Edited January 12, 2017 by Meagan S
eternalsummer
We just use BA. It hasn't failed us yet, but we go through it fairly slowly so there is time for things to sink in. There is actually, imo, a fair bit of repetition for a lot of the concepts - pages and pages of multiplication facts practice, for instance. It's just done in sort of a problem solving way (most of the time) so it doesn't look like typical worksheets. It's enough for us, but it also takes DS 30 minutes+ per day (for 4-6 pages) so I don't feel like we need to add anything.
AmandaVT
We used MM and switched to BA in 2nd. DS was working through MM 4b at the time and I started supplementing with BA and then just switched completely. Because we have MM, I occasionally will print off a few pages for extra practice. DS flies through the MM review and I really don't think it's necessary at this point.
Jackie
You seem to have two question - Does BA need supplemented? and What did you supplement with? To the first, no, I don't believe it needs supplemented. If your kid is working fine with it, great, feel free to let it be. To the second, it's almost difficult to tell what our "main" program is sometimes because I mix and match so much. BA is about half our time spent on math, with the rest filled with Zaccaro Primary Grade Challenge Math, Hands on Equations, Developing Fraction Sense (from the same people as HOE), Kumon practice workbooks (because my kid needs a bit more practice on algorithms even though concepts are easy for her), a couple of math apps, and a variety of living math books.
Julie of KY
If your child is understanding and retaining math through BA, then it doesn't need to be supplemented. My oldest would have done fine with it, but it wasn't out yet for him. For my current kids, I supplement with Singapore math.
RoundAbout
I supplemented with Singapore Challenging Word Problems, just because I felt that BA wasn't really strong on word problems.
ealp2009
We have been doing BA 3a alongside right start D. But RS can be a little slow and I have to speed it up a bit for my son. But since we have been doing it since level b and I like it I keep doing it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
desertflower
I supplement with SM CWP and PS. Also, with other math related books; such as, Zaccaro, but used only when I have time.

kathkath
We did Christian light alongside beast. Both have transitioned to public school gifted math classes and are both top students.

zaichiki
We've done Singapore Primary Math alongside Beast Academy with younger ds for the last few years. I've recently put Singapore aside (5B and Beast 4C-D) because I think Beast explains certain things better. Beast also dives in more deeply, with those double-starred problems that actually challenge ds to think. But I can't leave Singapore entirely because I really appreciate Singapore's bar diagrams and Challenging Word Problems - huge value! I think my compromise is to use Beast as the primary curriculum but supplement with Singapore on a chapter-by-chapter basis, using the text and Intensive Practice. This particular kid sucks math up really quickly! I may actually be both telescoping *and* compacting until he gets to a level where we can slow down a bit. (I honestly think he could handle both Algebra 1 and Geometry right now, based on the way he tries to jump in on his sister's lessons, but I'm afraid to actually do that and leave gaps that will cause future problems.)
