LucyStoner
if they make a plan to have a friend sleepover, forget to ask you and then remember to tell you while their friend is en route to be dropped off. I would have said yes in the first place so the chores aren't a punishment so much as a "pick up this mess, do the dishes and vacuum before they get here because Your Guest is coming." 😂

happi duck
Lol When the kids were young we hosted a weekly group. Once they were asked how to keep a house clean and they answered "have people over every week". They knew my "they're coming! This is not a drill!" style too well. :) We're actually in the midst of it now!

ErinE
It woks for all ages here :)DH: Can family come over?Me: Sure. What time? DH: They're on their way right now. Me: Okay. No problem. * Frantically spend twenty minutes wiping down counters, picking up toys, shoving everything into closets and drawers and closing bedroom doors. * There's nothing like impending visitors to make your cleaning super efficient. I figured better for him to do that work than me. 😂
MomsintheGarden
"Why are we cleaning? Is someone coming to visit?" The children are shocked when I say that, no, the house is dirty and needs cleaning just because. Hope your son enjoyed his guest!
Dmmetler
DH has commented that he's looking forward to having our regular homeschool clubs again. Knowing that we have friends coming weekly does wonders for keeping the house cleaned (we do one Party in December, but nothing else, and the house shows it!).
