maize
Dh had horrible acne as a teen, I had maybe three pimples total. So far dd13's skin is clear; I'm hoping she inherits my acne-free tendencies but her skin overall is more like dh's. So I'm curious--do acne problems usually crop up early in adolescence for those plagued by them, or can they just start at any time? SparklyUnicorn
No clue. Neither DH or I had any major issues in that department. My older kid is nearly 15 and so far he hasn't had major issues either.
The Girls' Mom
For my girls, it cropped up at about the same time periods did. Same for me. Mine also stuck around and I have to deal with it whenever my hormones fluctuate as an adult. (i.e. I break out horribly around that time of the month)
Guest
Mine got worse as an adult actually - my worst skin was in my late teens and early twenties, and I only had sporadic and minor zits as a teen (that I picked at and made worse, sheesh). I still fight hormonal acne, it sucks. But my mom and dad both deal with acne prone skin and they're now in their sixties - my mom's didn't clear up even after menopause, though she has never had cystic acne or anything scarring it's more persistently obnoxious mild to moderate zits. On the upside her skin is oily and she looks twenty years younger, so I hope I inherited that part of it too. TranquilMind
14-15. Not too bad. One is older than that and developed a few spots around exam time which are clearing up now.
MEmama
For DS, 11 or definitely 12.
Ali in OR
I do know of some kids who have a much bigger acne issue as high schoolers, even older high schoolers, than they had as middle schoolers. 13 would be a little young to conclude it won't be an issue. JumpyTheFrog
DS is 10 and has been fighting acne since shortly after his birthday. Both his dad and grandma had terrible acne growing up.
alisoncooks
My 10 year old has it, and I can tell it worsens with her cycle. Mostly chin and around hair line.
