sea_mommy
I am wanting to try an online class (or 2) for 6th grade. If you were to outsource any subject in this way, which subject would it be?
The Governess
Writing (for the feedback), literature (for discussion), or foreign language.
bibiche
We outsource math and have done for a couple years. AoPS is worth every penny as far as we are concerned.
Kiara.I
I've considered outsourcing writing. I find math easy (so far, who knows what lies in the future) because it's very concrete. Either the student understands the concept of they don't. They can either solve the problem or they can't. But writing... How do I know if they're writing well /enough/? It's so subjective... ...................
it is in person, not online, but i am glad we outsourced english/literature. my 7th grader has truly enjoyed the discussion, feedback from someone other than me, and the ideas and variety. english is my strongest subject so i didn't expect to outsource but it has been a great experience.
AdventuresinHomeschooling
Science for sure, but I would probably do that one more in person. I am thinking of using AOPS online in a couple years for math. I will definitely outsource in high school.
redsquirrel
Oursourcing writing to TWA has been one of my best decisions yet. I will absolutely continue with it. If I were going to chose another class, it would be a language. I would love for him to take a French or Latin class online. It would have to be like the writing class and meet twice a week. I might do that next year for him.
Miss Tick
In 6th we outsourced Spanish. In 7th I'm hoping to continue that and add another. Now that they understand what is expected and how to interact with an online teacher, I would like to add a second class for comparison, and because I'm enjoying having other people design and run some of our subjects! I thought it would be writing, but I'm enjoying teaching WWS1, so then I thought math, but we will probably reach algebra mid-year next year, so that might be tricky. I like having science and history lighter subjects, so those are low on my outsource list right now.
crazyforlatin
Writing for an expert's feedback and foreign languages to converse with a native speaker. I like the suggestions for literature class, so we might try that next year. I know my limits by now.

bethben
We outsource writing to Pottersschool.org. I can get my children to a certain level and then I need to have someone else give them input. It's worked great so far!
sea_mommy
Thank you, everyone for the feedback! It looks like lots of people think that writing is a good one to outsource. Any suggestions on where to?
