I can't decide what size I need.  We are a family of four, and the biggest roasts I cook are about 3 lb.  Would the 6 qt. be big enough for us?

Also, can you put frozen meat in?  I would rarely do this, but there are days I have forgotten to thaw something, so this would be helpful.

I use the 6 qt. for my family of 7.5, although one of us doesn't eat meat, and some of us are still small.  It's fine, but in a few years, I will probably upgrade to the 8 qt.  The 6 qt. holds enough of a main dish just fine, but if I want to cook, say, a roast plus vegetables in a separate packet, I don't really have room for that very well.  But a mix of chicken, rice, sauce, and veggies works fine, or 16 oz. pasta plus a few pounds of ground meat and a few jars of sauce also fits well.  It easily makes a big batch of mac and cheese or a batch of oatmeal enough for my crowd too.
