LuvToRead
I can't decide what size I need. We are a family of four, and the biggest roasts I cook are about 3 lb. Would the 6 qt. be big enough for us? Also, can you put frozen meat in? I would rarely do this, but there are days I have forgotten to thaw something, so this would be helpful. zoobie
Yes, you can put in frozen meat. I have the 6qt with a family of 6. I don't know how the 8qt works. I've seen a few threads on it in the Instant Pot Community group on FB. It's a really helpful group.
Prairie~Phlox
From what I've read, yes & yes. If you are on FB, you should join the Instant Pot page. I don't own pne, but want one.
happypamama
I use the 6 qt. for my family of 7.5, although one of us doesn't eat meat, and some of us are still small. It's fine, but in a few years, I will probably upgrade to the 8 qt. The 6 qt. holds enough of a main dish just fine, but if I want to cook, say, a roast plus vegetables in a separate packet, I don't really have room for that very well. But a mix of chicken, rice, sauce, and veggies works fine, or 16 oz. pasta plus a few pounds of ground meat and a few jars of sauce also fits well. It easily makes a big batch of mac and cheese or a batch of oatmeal enough for my crowd too.
StaceyinLA
I have a 6 qt - zero issues putting in a 3-4 pound roast with some accompanying veggies.
LuvToRead
Thanks! I think I will go with the 6 qt. I am going to tell my parents it is what I want for Christmas. I always add veggies to my roast too, so I am glad to know there will be room for both.
FriedClams
I love 💘 💘 💘 my IP. I'm getting a second pan, a pan lid, and some new seals when I finish moving as my "you totally rock" gift to myself. LOL
