rutheart
I will be teaching weekly lessons to second and third grade girls this year, as preparation for starting First Lego League in fourth grade. These girls have never touched Technic Legos before, so the lessons will be focused on introducing the various Technic pieces and how they fit together, ending each week with a building challenge. I would like to also use this time to discuss simple machines. For example, when we cover bushes, I want to discuss what a pulley is, and how bushes can be used in a pulley (and then have the girls create a flagpole with a paper flag taped to the rubber band). Has anyone done this, and would you be willing to share your lesson plans? I know Lego Education sells curricula for this, but that is out of my price range. lanalouwho
Maybe one of the Klutz books. I'm doing this one with my son this year. It's pretty cool. They also have one called crazy contraptions or something like that. You might have to cut and paste this, I can't hyperlink from my phone. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0545703301/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1469062287&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=lego+simple+machines&dpPl=1&dpID=61erxY1q51L&ref=plSrch Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk Edited: oh hey, the link did work! Arcadia
The free simple machines teacher manual might work. It's at the bottom of the link http://www.legoengineering.com/science-through-lego-engineering/

cintinative
The free simple machines teacher manual might work. It's at the bottom of the link http://www.legoengineering.com/science-through-lego-engineering/ I was coming here to recommend this also. It is written assuming you have an NXT but we modified it to use with our motor/Technic/WeDo. I think it is on the middle-schoolish level. The kids I used it with were Jr. FLL kids aged 6-9. ldkgates
4H has a new Lego EV3 project book available. It starts with learning the pieces and has building challenges. The books are around $8 on www.4Hmall.org or you can check with your local extension office to see if they have them or can order them. Project books from our extension office are free.
