madteaparty
This is new to me as my DS is really not into this stuff (staring at TWO mindstorms sets gathering dust, sigh). But my little dd (almost 5) begs him to teach her scratch and has been playing with gears and such for hours at a time... What's good for this age? alisha
I just found ozobot (.com), and it's great for young kids because to start, you just use colored markers and it follows the lines and different colors put together make it speed up, or turn around, or some such thing. It's also good for older kids as there are some creative thinking "maze" type things that come with it, and for a small fee ($10), you can upgrade it to program it on your computer to move how you want-from scratch. Also, do you know about scratch.mit.edu? It's a free website, but she might be able to figure it out on her own after not too much showing. eternallytired
Have you looked at code.org? They have lots of games and apps that they recommend (both free and paid), and they give descriptions and age guidelines.

Arcadia
Sphero has an app for programming as well if you want something easier than mindstorm to start her off. http://www.sphero.com/education
silver
My 6-year-old has used ozobot at our library and really enjoyed it. Lightbot is easy enough to do without being a fluent reader. There are a lot of online games similar to it--some require reading and some don't. Edison is a fun robot. You can start simple by having it scan predetermined barcodes to have it do various things (follow a line, follow a flashlight, etc) or you can program it on the computer using a drag and drop style programming interface. It's also lego compatible, and you can build on it with lego and technic pieces.
Jackie
Lightbot is a great app. We have the Dash and Dot robots, which have been good because my daughter really wanted something "real" to program instead of all virtual.

TriciaT
Timberdoodle has some cool looking beginners robotic sets called robotis. I am thinking of getting a set for the next school year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
