4kids4me
I've never had problems with my monthly cycle. For the most part, 28 days has been the norm. If it's 30 one month, then within a couple of months I'll have a 26 day cycle...it just evens out. It's normally seven days (no pill, iud...just au natural) and I've never had issues. So you can imagine my surprise when I started to get it today, just 10 days after I got my period. The period was normal, lasted seven days...but now I'm crampy and have started to bleed again. What. The. Heck???? Any ideas? I thought *maybe* it could be me ovulating, but I've never had anything like this. BTW, dh had a vasectomy over two years ago, so I'm pretty sure it's not a pregnancy-related issue.
hsmamainva
When was your last physical? I had something similar happen to me when my thyroid was out of whack.
4kids4me
My last physical was about a year ago. Everything was fine then. How can an out of whack thyroid affect your cycle?
melissel
Any chance you could be hitting perimenopause? I know my mom was shocked at how young it started for her.
hsmamainva
Because your thyroid gland controls a lot of hormone levels. That was the only symptom I had for hypothyroidism -- an out of whack cycle. Other ones can be dry skin, inability to lose weight, always being cold, insomnia -- there are others, but I can't remember them off the top of my head
RhondaM.
Any chance you could be hitting perimenopause? I know my mom was shocked at how young it started for her. This is what it is with me. I'm 44 and this has been going on a couple of years off and on.
4kids4me
....I saw the dr. a month ago because my scalp is SO EXTREMELY dry. It's really bad. She is sending me to a dermatologist for that. Maybe it could be my thyroid.

Diana in OR
It's not unusual to have this happen once in a while, but it isn't much fun.
4kids4me
Wow, it's just so surprising because I've never had it before. I have friends with cycle issues, but there are reasons for that, kwim? Well, if it's not unusual.... :)

4kids4me
...that's exactly what I thought! Who wants to have that earlier than normal?!?!?!
SnowWhite
Another possibility is a "missed miscarriage". This happened to my SIL. She had a period and started again a couple weeks later, then got a ++ pg test. A month later she had a period. The first unusual bleeding had been a m/c. hsmamainva
f well, if it is hypo, then your cycles might be longer as you are ovulating less...but you never know I have hypo and they were shorter than normal. Like every 2 weeks, just as the OP has said. It went on for a few months before I went to the doctor though.
xinme
BTDT -- doctor wasn't worried -- 'member? I think it's just that you're getting old. Things start falling apart around now, you know. Hey, maybe we'll be twins with whacky thyroids:) Woo hoo!:cheers2: Seriously, though -- what does it hurt to check it out with the doc? 4kids4me
Don't you think it'd be dumb if I went to the doctor the first time it happened? Shouldn't I wait until at least another time? I did email the naturopath (finally) to make another app't. Maybe I'll get her opinion first. kristavws
Well, this is definitely TMI, but I went for 4-months bleeding 3-weeks, with 1-week of no bleeding. I finally went to the gyno. It ended up I had a cervical polyp. He clipped it off, and my cycle immediately returned to normal. Krista

Lovedtodeath
Actually... "brain fog" or loss of memory is a symptom. Muscle aches and muscle crampiness, head aches, weakness, was fatigue already mentioned? drrind.com has great info on metabolic disorders. Thyroid and adrenal are two of them.
