Pegasus Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 DD participated in the spring round of testing for the Student Math League, an international competition among two-year colleges covering topics such as geometry, algebra, trigonometry, statistics and probability. The college recently posted the results and DD earned the top score for the school! I blame Math U See, which DD used from first grade through pre-calculus. Just a little anecdotal evidence to counterbalance the prevailing forum opinion of the program. 26 Quote
Sunshine State Sue Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Thanks for sharing. I loved MUS in elementary, but did not feel it was appropriate for my STEM student in high school. Question: Did your dd use Algebra in 9th, Geometry in 10th, Algebra 2 in 11th, and Pre-Calculus in 12th? Then did she start with Calculus at CC? 1 Quote
DoraBora Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 How exciting! :hurray: Congratulations to your daughter! My own daughter will take MUS Pre-calculus at our co-op next year... thank you for sharing this! 1 Quote
Pegasus Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 Question: Did your dd use Algebra in 9th, Geometry in 10th, Algebra 2 in 11th, and Pre-Calculus in 12th? Then did she start with Calculus at CC? She did each of those courses a year earlier. She then did pre-calculus algebra and pre-calculus trig at the CC via dual enrollment her senior year, just to be sure she was rock solid. She sailed through, finding it a repeat of what she had already done. She probably could have tackled calculus her senior year. We aren't in a hurry. She had calculus 1 last semester and is currently in calculus 2. 1 Quote
DebbS Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Very good. Congrats to your daughter. The best curriculum is the one through which your student learns. 1 Quote
Holly Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I love hearing stories like this. MUS has so many negative reviews, so I love hearing "success stories" of families who stick with it! :) Quote
