JennyD
Paraphrase: "In breaking news, homeschooling isn't just for conservative Christians any more. Also, water is wet." But it's a nice article nonetheless. http://www.salon.com/2015/09/28/why_more_parents_are_homeschooling_their_kids_partner/
mom2scouts
Ugh, don't read the comments. They are calling homeschoolers ignorant?
Southern Ivy
Ugh, don't read the comments. They are calling homeschoolers ignorant? And parents. "But, the average parent simply is not capable of teaching anything complex to their child." So, if you are a parent that can understand something complex, you're above average. Give yourself a pat on the back.
snowbeltmom
And parents. "But, the average parent simply is not capable of teaching anything complex to their child." I find it amusing that most posters criticizing homeschooling cannot construct a grammatically correct response.
Tanaqui
Sigh. Jane Austen used singular they. Mark Twain used singular they. Shakespeare used singular they. That sentence is perfectly correct grammatically, although it may be stylistically inappropriate in some contexts. Those contexts do not include internet comments (which you should NEVER read). (Also, it's always grammatically correct to start sentences with conjunctions, and punctuation != grammar.) Of course, the argument is ridiculous. If the average parent cannot teach the same subjects they were required to learn as students (as though most homeschooled high schoolers get all their teaching strictly from their parents to begin with), then doesn't that imply that our school system really is atrocious?
The Girls' Mom
Oh my word. The ignorance in the comment section is astonishing.
