Arch at Home
My source of bulk tapioca starch has gone away. Where do you get your's? I am looking for ideally 10 lbs or more at a time. Sarah
Amy in NH
I don't know about 10lb packages, but Bob's Red Mill makes it in 1 or 2 lb packages and if you order a case then 3 packages come in a box. We can get the packages at Ocean State Job Lot, or the cases through a monthly United Buying Clubs co-op.
Guest
Yup, I just do the smaller Bobs red mill packages, but the Asian market may have it in bulk :)
lexi
I order stuff from Honeyville. I think they have the tapioca starch. I can't remember at the moment.
redsquirrel
Ok, I really must know what one does with that much tapioca starch on a regular basis. Make paint? Canning? I am sooooo curious now? I just use it for baking but now I feel like I am missing out on something good
Amy in NH
I don't use it at all - don't even have any in the house. But I used to order from co-op for a friend with celiac kids, and she used it in gluten-free baking.

lexi
To make gluten free flour mix. This. I use it with rice flour and potato starch to make a blend.
bettyandbob
I order from Amazon. I also get it from the Asian grocery, I believe from the Korean section of the store. It's cheaper there, but I have to buy multiple small packages, rather than bulk.
Arch at Home
Thanks for all of the responses. I use the tapioca starch to mix gluten-free flour mix. We use about 150 lb/year of flour mix. I used to use tapioca starch from our Asian market but it was cross contaminate...not good. Honeyville does have tapioca starch but in 55 lb bags though the $4.95 flat rate shipping is good. That is more than I can use in a reasonable amount of time but maybe I can find someone to split it will. I think that I can still get potato starch in 10 lb bags. Does anyone use potato starch in lieu of tapioca starch in flour mix?...I think that I went to tapioca because potato was more expensive but that was years ago. redsquirrel
Ah, I feel so enlightened! I am a baking geek, but not a gluten free baker. I should learn more about it, if only to have another thing to geek out about.

Butter
I think that I can still get potato starch in 10 lb bags. Does anyone use potato starch in lieu of tapioca starch in flour mix?...I think that I went to tapioca because potato was more expensive but that was years ago. I use half and half tapioca and potato along with rice flour in my blend. My friend, however, just uses potato starch because she is allergic to tapioca (as well as wheat) and her stuff turns out great.
aaplank
You can see if Azure Standard has a drop-off in your area.
Arch at Home
I can buy from Azure Standard but their shipping is almost as much as the product. After much price shopping, I determined that the local corner grocer is the least expensive who allows me to tack onto their UNFI order with a 15% up charge followed by Amazon with free shipping. Thanks for your help. Sarah
texasmama
I would try to keep the tapioca because it lends "chew" to the baked goods. Good luck in your search! I would likely hit up Amazon for this product even if I had to buy several bags to reach my quota because I have Prime.
Classical Katharine
Mountain Rose organic herbs carries arrowroot in bulk . . . but I don't think they have tapioca starch.
