Laura Corin
Interesting selection - one of them I had never heard of: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/aug/07/10-books-that-shaped-the-world

Lara in Colo
I recently read 25 books that shaped America--- that was also an interesting read
idnib
It's interesting Sand County Almanac was listed rather than Silent Spring.
Laura Corin
It's interesting Sand County Almanac was listed rather than Silent Spring. I haven't read either, but isn't Silent Spring more about a specific issue (reduced bird numbers due to the effect of agricultural chemicals on bird eggshells) whereas Sand County is a more general view? Joanne
I could build a high school curriculum around that. I would dump Freud and replace it with Alcoholics Anonymous. Or maybe The Road Less Travelled.
Seasider
It's interesting Sand County Almanac was listed rather than Silent Spring. Leopold is a wonderful, picturesque writer. I personally feel he has the ability to inspire one to want to be a good steward rather than feeling squicky about having neglected conservation practices (which is kind of the way Carson makes me feel).

Yes, that's true. Silent Spring is more specific, and that might be what made the decision re: the top 10 list.
brehon
Finally, had a chance to read the article as well as the comments. I don't as a matter of course read the comments sections of newspaper articles for obvious reasons; however, I have to say that I actually enjoyed many of the commenters' thoughts and opinions about what they would have included/excluded, even if I disagreed with them. I don't know if the relative lack of vitriol was because of the topic and article itself; but, they (the comments) were refreshing to read. As for the list itself, I've read most of the books on the list.
