ErinE
Based on statistics. An interesting article on a unique college recently found to be the "worst" in the US. http://www.theguardian.com/education/2014/dec/06/shimer-college-illinois-worst-school-america Based on the description of the college's educational process, I think the article shows that statistics can be meaningless. Dmmetler
It doesn't sound like a great fit for DD (she's planning to be a herpetologist, so she needs a strong biology programs with undergraduate research opportunities), but I want to sign me up now-that just sounds like a lot of fun and a great experience. Yes, I thought the process sounded like an ideal liberal arts education.
GailV
Pretty sure we got something from there, or someone mentioned it to us, last year when older dd was looking at schools. One person's "awful" is another's great fit, and vice versa. Maybe it will be to their advantage to be number 1 simply because more people are talking about them now. Penguin
I hope this publicity works in their favor. I love the sound of it.
*lifeoftheparty*
Isn't this what they do at St. John's College- here in Annapolis? The school buildings/grounds are obviously a lot nicer than this place- but the educational model sounds the same.

kiwik
Sounds a bit intense for me but a great way of learning. Lectures when I was at university were probably 200 to 300. Small fourth year classes were 20. On the other hand you didn't get treated like a child often and could be anonymous.
momto2Cs
It actually sounds similar in approach to my undergrad program, which I absolutely loved btw.
Mergath
It sounds fascinating. I'd love to spend a year or two there. Something like this, which teaches students how to think about, question, and discuss primary sources, would be a great thing to do for a year before going to a more traditional college. I mean, it'd be great if students completed their entire college education like this, but that's probably not going to happen- people are too afraid to get away from the traditional model because they need the degree and the prestige and the connections. But I'd love to see people spend at least part of their time at a place like this and actually learn how to think.
Aurelia
I don't know if I'd want to go there, but it sounds almost perfect for DD. She LOVES to discuss everything to the point my eyes cross.
Penguin
Need a fun fact for today? Elizabeth Vandiver did her undergrad at this college. Elizabeth Vandiver: a highly recommended classics lecturer in TWTM-land (Great Courses / The Teaching Company: Odyssey, Iliad, etc.) Now I like it even more.
