classicmommy
For my advanced 1st grader all we are doing for art is Draw Right Now. Is there a simple picture study or art appreciation program out there?

I keep hearing this over and over. If you go this rout make sure to get the actual prints, not just the digital version.

pitterpatter
This is what we're using too. ETA: We also use ELTL, which incorporates some basic picture study. http://simplycharlottemason.com/store/picture-study-portfolios/
Wabi Sabi
To keep it simple, I just choose an artist, then find 2-3 library books/DVDs about that artist and then order inexpensive Dover postcard sets to use as prints. We just read the books together over a couple of weeks, watch any DVDs or youtube videos I've found and have the cards available for the kids to look at. On occasion I'll specifically choose an artist who has work available in nearby museums and take a field trip as well. Our local art museum currently has Matisse show set up just for a month, so Matisse was a natural choice for learning about right now.
