kbutton Posted March 1, 2014 Share Posted March 1, 2014 My son is outgrowing Highlights, but some folks we know like to buy it as a gift for him. They kindly check in each year to see if he still wants it, or if he wants something new, but we don't have too many ideas for what to move on to. He'll switch if he can find something he likes. He would probably like general science but not something biology heavy like Ranger Rick. He likes vehicles, but I don't really want a strictly car magazine unless it's educational in some way (he is very interested in being a mechanic someday). He likes physical science, electronic stuff, etc. He likes Popular Mechanics for Kids videos from the old TV series. He likes to read a variety of books. He loves every facet of home improvement--he's a This Old House junkie (and I am considering that mag as an option). Something downloadable is probably okay too (iPad), esp. if designed for it (Kids Discover comes to mind). He likes Crinkles, but that magazine died a while ago, and we have just a few back issues. A general interest magazine might be fine too; I just don't know what's out there. The library has a few magazines for kids, but they are mostly for younger kids or are about nature. Thanks! We got one today that said "THIS IS YOUR LAST ISSUE" and he says he definitely wants it another year.
