Liz CA
Is it true that you can store flour and grains in crocks and bugs will not attack it? I need to know before I spend $40 on a crock....

Liz CA
Can't say as if I've ever heard that. The best thing to do to keep your grains and flours bug free is to freeze them for 48 hours before storing. The freezing kills any bug larvae. Also, if you do buy a crock, make sure that it has a tight seal in the lid so nothing can get in the container. Well, darn it. It was too good to be true! Can you freeze oatmeal as well? I had and EXTREMELY unpleasant surprise when I recently openend an oatmeal container...
Liz CA
Grain in crocks? "My" crocks are spelled with a "k" :) "Your" crocs have too many holes...
Tammi K
Well, I looked at the picture pretty closely and I didn't see a single bug in those crocs!
KungFuPanda
I just stick the bag in the pantry and have never had a bug. Unless this is a recurring problem, I wouldn't do or buy anything. That said, if the crock has an air tight lid it should work.

Forget-Me-Not
The bugs (larvae) usually ARRIVE in the grain/flour rather than getting into a container of it.
Artichoke
Is it true that you can store flour and grains in crocks and bugs will not attack it? I need to know before I spend $40 on a crock.... If you're talking large quantities of grain, then a five gallon bucket with a gamma seal lid is what I use. For inside storage, I use Anchor-Hocking ( made in the USA ) glass jars with screw top lids or mason jars with plastic screw top lids. ETA: Like others, I freeze grains and flours when I get them. G5052
LOL. I had the same picture. I'm wearing Crocs right now. Seriously, I store my flours and grains in Tupperware containers on my counter, and similar plastic containers in my pantry and basement. But I live in a buggy area of the country.... Maybe I am ready now to go grain and flour-less. On the other hand, evidently I have been eating bug larvae all my life and have survived...sometimes ignorance is bliss!
