mlktwins
So we have fairly new, light colored carpet. Of course we put hardwood in the boys' rooms so if they were sick, it would go on a hard surface -- easier to clean. I didn't anticipate running for the bathroom and getting much of it on the carpet right outside the room. Lesson learned :-). So...using clear dishwashing detergent and warm water (per the instructions that came with the warranty info for our carpet), I was able to get any stains out. I am just going over the area one more time to be sure. But...how can I safely get the smell out of the carpet? I know it's been posted somewhere here before -- I remember seeing it -- but I am so tired and I can barely type must less search. Any assistance would be much appreciated!!! Pawz4me
Agree. Nature's Miracle or similar quality enzyme based pet stain and odor remover should work. You may have to treat multiple times.

I used to use something like this when I had cats, but that was a long, long time ago.
In the Rain
We recently had to use Kids and Pets (like Nature's Miracle) on our brand new carpet. It has not affected the carpet color.

SadieMarie
We used vinegar to get rid of cat pee smell. I don't know if it would work for vomit but maybe worth a try before buying something.
Chris in VA
If you use an enzyme cleaner like NM, keep the area wet for a while (several hours) to let the enzymes work. No color changes when I have used it at clients' homes.

Tammyla
Vinegar can work. I've used it with baking soda and let it foam, then rinse. (Try a spot to be sure what ever you use doesn't pull color from the carpet.) A can of Lysol is another option.
wormbuy
We used baking soda on a mattress once. I can't remember if it was sprinkled or if I made a paste with water, but it worked.
