tammyw
To go along with my historical non-fiction year of reading, I thought it would be great to do a year of historical movies. This would also give me a chance to preview them all now to see what I'll want my kids to see when they are older. I tried searching but might not be putting in the right terms. Has this already been done before?

milovany
There's a book out there for homeschoolers that does this. I can't think of the name of it! <think, think>

Milovany - if you happen to think of the book, I'd love that!

Amethyst
I'm doing a year of movies for history this year. My daughter is 15 so may or may not be appropriate for your child since many of these are rated R. We are only doing modern history. This is what I have planned so far. We've only just finished Public Enemies, so I can't vouch for anything after that, but anything before that I felt was worthwhile or we wouldn't have finished it. (bolded ones are ones we've already watched) Roots The Assassination of Jesse James Iron Jawed Angels Flyboys All Quiet on the Western Front Gallipoli Communism (Khan Academy) Michael Collins (with Liam Neeson) Vladimir Lenin (documentary) Rabbit-proof Fence Public Enemies Crash of 1929 (PBS) Schindler’s List Empire of the Sun Pearl Harbor Tuskegee Airmen Saving Private Ryan Battle of the Bulge Hiroshima: BBC Good Night, and Good Luck Something the Lord Made Korea:The Forgotten War Korean War Overview (Khan) Tucker: The Man and His Dream Bay of Pigs Invasion (Khan) Cuban Missile Crisis (Khan) Che Vietnam War (Khan) Pattern of US Cold War Interventions (Khan) Kent State: The Day the War Came Home October Sky Rosa Parks Story Killing Fields Last Emperor Right Stuff Ghosts of Mississippi Bobby Cry Freedom Allende and Pinochet in Chile (Khan) When Capitalism is Great and Not-so-Great (Khan) 20th Century Capitalism and Regulation in the US (Khan) One Day in September (documentary about 1972 Munich Olympic hostages) 444 Days to Freedom Hotel Rwanda Charlie Wilson’s War Live from Baghdad Kandahar Black Hawk Down Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close The Hurt Locker Green Zone A Better Life
tammyw
Thank you all!!! I'm currently reading Nothing to Envy: Ordinary lives in North Korea, so I'm glad to see some movies about that in the pile.
