Follstad
Hello, I purchased a new Core G (World History, part 1) for my 11 year old daughter. It seems very light and she's working ahead at a fast pace. She's asking for more in regards to the history part. Any suggestions? Any kind of history project she could do relating to this core? Thanks! Sarah
LindaOz
Maybe you could add Mystery of History to read along with it. It adds a little different perspective and also has project and assignment ideas for each reading.
Mom22ns
We used Spielvogel's Human Odyssey broken over the two years of Core G & H. We also substituted out a few books. I don't buy packages, so I just did books that I couldn't get at the library or for a few dollars. My kids also did Lightning Lit while doing these cores. That helped provide a bit more reading that was generally a higher level than the lit in SL.
Mom0012
We just started Core G a few days ago. One of the things I did was add in some of TWTM recs for history. For us, that meant adding in reading and creating a timeline from The Kingfisher History Encyclopedia. (The Story of the World Activity guide has a schedule that lines The Kingfisher up with SOTW.) We will also be outlining once a week and then writing a paragraph on something read that week. I also added in Maptrek (and dropped SL's mapping). So far that is going great. They have a schedule that lines their maps up with Core G. You could also add in some of the ancient and medieval book recommendations from TWTM if you want more reading. Chris in VA
Outlining? How about adding in readings from Kingfisher or DK Encyclo and then having her pick something every two weeks to research and do a project on?

tuesdayschild
Hello, I purchased a new Core G (World History, part 1) for my 11 year old daughter. Thanks! Sarah our dd will be doing an ongoing project on costumes/women's fashion with that core ... we restart back with ancients in Jan 2013, and she'll be 11. History Portfolios are a great project (we used some of the earlier level sets); but they may be too much to do with Core G as, if used as prescribed, H.Ports are best suited to a 4 year history cycle. We won't be using SOTW. We've been there - using that - and enjoyed it. Great thread!
