LostSurprise
For a girl: Al' ee (like the narrow road behind buildings)For a boy: Al ee' (like Mohammed Ali) :iagree:
Shellydon
Alley, girl's name. I've never seen it as a boy's name.
Janie Grace
Ah-lee, like Muhammad Ali. Although, if it was with an American-sounding last name, I'd assume it was more likely a girl's name, whose parents didn't want to use the more common "Allie." ednkirstin
I would pronounce it "ah-lee" like Muhammad Ali. It makes me think of a boy.
Princess Peach
Alley - girls name Remember on Karate Kid (old one) when Ali introduces herself as "Ali with an i"? Here it is: It's at about 1:20. :) Edited August 9, 2012 by Princess Peach
LeslieAnneLevine
Just that name, no last name or any other information, I would think it's AH-LEE (boys' name) and I don't think there is really an accent on either syllable.
SnowWhite
It's my niece's middle name. My brother and his Persian wife gave their daughter the middle name "Ali" in honor of her grandfather, who was named Ali. We pronounce it "Ah-lee." But in this case, it's still a male name. Lots of people, including females, around the world use their father's name as a middle or last name. I think Ali looks very masculine. :iagree: My first thought was Ali Baba, prince of thieves. I don't ever think Ah-LEE with stress on the last syllable except for Mohammed Ali. I do think it's a boy's name. If I wanted to name my daughter something like that I would spell it with two l's. Allie or Ally.
QuirkyKapers
Alley, I think girl when I see Ali.
wintermom
Depends on the nationality of the person. Ali could be a short form of Allison for a girl. Ali could be a name for a boy in Arabia (a la Disney movie - my brain is blanking on the name - the one with the big blue genie).
