We are moving to Nashville next year and was wondering if anyone here knows of a Classical Conversations group there. We will be close to Hendersonville, NE area.

Also, what homeschooling groups are there in Nashville? Did not find much on the web.

Next year we will have a 9, 7, 5, and 1 yo.

And what about umbrella schools?

Thank you for any info you might have on these.

I don't know about the CC co-op. sorry. no help there.. but....

When I moved to TN a few years ago, I found out that people around here (Memphis side of the state) that people get all uptight about the church related school/umbrella school. It's like a big deal to them. culturally weird to me. It's like picking tables at school cafeteria or something. Hopefully in Nashville, they aren't as nutsy about it.

I went with Home Life Academy. Click of a button, credit card, and I was legal with no change in how I teach or school, and no new demands on me with testing, etc. I like the online stuff. wahoo! they serve the whole state.

You might consider starting here for more local info on CRS.

and in general for Nashville homeschooling

If you're not Christian faith, then you might still ask that group for a referral to another group in the area that would serve your needs. That groups runs the Nashville convention. Feel free to drive down here to Memphis for the other convention

I live in Chattanooga, but you can go with any umbrella school in the State. We use Aaron Academy and really like it. The only requirement is you turn in a record of attendance and grades once a semester. They sent us a student ID and teacher ID and at the end she will get a diploma and can graduate. There is a homeschool convention each summer here (I am sure there will be one in Nashville too) where several different umbrella schools had booths. You could talk to a Representative of each before you decide.

Thank you all, we are christians so of course looking for a christian umbrella school.

Is that Aaron Academy in Hendersonville, TN? That is exactly where we will be moving. I like the idea of the diploma.

Testing is NOT required inTN?

I will message privately about the CC, thank you!!

Nashville is a great place to homeschool! Loads of excellent resources - history and the arts especially! The Metro library system was one of the top 10 in the country last year.

Yes, there are CC groups here, but I don't know anything about the NE area. I'm sure the CC website can direct you. There are at least three on the SE side of town, so surely someone near H'ville has it running too.

Umbrella schools are easy. Both cyber and bricks & mortar varieties to choose from. I think that if you register with an umbrella school, you follow their policy on testing. We are registered with Franklin Classical School.

Hope your move goes smoothly and you find the resources you need!

Hendersonville has a nice library built in the last 2-3 years as well as new businesses and resources being added since it is growing quickly. I am not sure @ any co-op groups in the area. Most of the big places in Nashville offer homeschool days once a month e.g. zoo, science center, etc.

Here are 2 lists with groups and co-ops:

Yes, I looked it up after I posted it and it is in Hendersonville. That would be nice for you because you would be close enough to them to do field trips and sports with them if you wanted.

I do think you have to test in 3, 5, and 7th grade. (I could be wrong about the grades)

I agree that TN is a great State to Homeschool in.

You do not have to test in any grade if you are registered under a CRS. The only testing you will have to do is what your CRS requires of you. Home Life Academy doesn't require testing and many other CRS's don't require testing either. Here is a listing of the legal CRS's in TN. http://www.tnhomeed.com/CRSChart.html I highly recommend all new homeschoolers read the entire Tn Home Ed website I just linked to above. It's the best place for all things homeschooling in TN.

There are several groups in the Nashville area also. MTHEA is a good place to read also.

I live in Nashville so feel free to PM if you have any more questions.
